  • That looks very nice matey. Why did you lose the SC?

Rather nice, good spec, is it XT throughout?

Always ridden hardtails over the years, and siince I've had the SL I just couldn't get used to it, even though I'm riding more offroad than ever before. Shame really because it was a really nice bike.

It is XT throughout Jon, except the wheels which are Crossmax ST's cos I'm a bit of a porker.

My (not so) old Superlight with me and cheesy grin at the Long Mynd a couple of months ago.
  • Oh great, it's turning into another "ignore the bike and comment on the kitchen appliances" thread. Nice toaster.

....Bike looks great, by the way. That's not a cheap frame, is it!?

Mmm, I'd noticed the toaster too, love the big letters spelling out toaster for those morning when things just don't come together.

The SC was a nice piece of kit, can't believe you went back to (an albeit lovely looking) hardtail. Fraid it would be my hardtail to go first if I was put in that position.

  • I haven't got this one on the scales yet but the SL was just under 26lbs, I rekon/hope I can knock around 3.5lbs off that.

It was a fabulous looking bike but I just didn't 'love' riding it like I love riding hardtails. I was in and around the Wyre Forest on Monday with Stourbridge Cycle Club and I had a great time, but I genuinely I wished I was on a hardtail.

im never normally a fan of hardtails and always think folk who bash fs havent ridden good ones. but you are lucky to have tried and decided you like ht more, so good on you.

which do you think is faster around the same trail?
  • I've ridden the same trail on the Mynd on my old Cannondale HT and the SL and to be fair using the SL when riding down Carding Mill valley was quicker, but the 'dale was more exciting! I think getting up there was slower but that could be for any number of reasons.

But 95% of the time I'm on trails around Dudley, Stourbridge, Kinver, Clent etc and I/you can ride most of those quickly on a HT, If I was to ride the Mynd more regularly I would have kept it.

Besides I had the deal of the Century on a bike that will last me a lifetime.

im not criticising, im just curious, its not often you see folk go from fs to hardtail. either way, its a lovely looking bit of kit

I never thought you were, thanks for your kind opinion.

Another reason is I may be looking for a CX/road bike next year for commuting and a proper excuse for shaving my legs :D I don't need to now, I'll just swap tyres and lock the forks out.

    Thanks again!
