My first mountain bike was a red 20in GT Outpost in 1993.. it had one cro-mo steel tube (the seat tube) and all the rest was hi-tensile steel...frame weighed 7lbs!!! 21 gears and no front suspension.. I seem to recall it had maybe 48 (?) teeth on the outer chainring and one day with the wind behind me I pedalled it to 36mph down a long flat road where I lived.0

"Dangerous" Derek Dougan of the now-defunct Lancashire Mountain Bike Club, attempting to ford the River Hodder at Newton-in-Slaidburn, c. 1989, riding a Peugeot if I recall??
Yours truly about to land a 50-foot huck on a fully rigid Giant Sierra, outside the Dolphin pub, Longton, near Preston.
Members of the Lancashire Mountain Bike Club on their ascent of Wolf Fell, 1990 - left to right, Rob Smith (Muddy Fox Explorer), unknown, unkown, Paul "Bacon Legs" Eastwood (Muddy Fox Limited Edition), Steve "Radio Timperley" Withington (Muddy Fox Explorer)0 -
Muddy Fox.. another top brand back in the day .. not worth a s.hit now of course.
My second proper bike was a Balance 450. They no longer exist AFAIK.0 -
