There were a few posts on here about going out on New Years Day. So who actually did and who were the ones that were still rat arsed from last night and didn't. I went out earlier did a an 1 1/2 hrs. I'm t-total so not riding after a night on the beer was never gonna happen.

yep, i went out and did 2hours / 30 miles. did'nt go out till 1.30 though so the booze had plenty of time to get out my system.
was still a bit slippy out in the lanes.

Yesterday I thought I would, but today - the head hurts...
  • Easy(ish) hour on the fixed with nice quite roads this morning.
  • I went out today, gotta get started on the Metric Century Challenge for this year over on the 'Sportive' section!

To be honest, I've never really celebrated New Years, bar the millenium, so today was just another sunny day! It was very quiet though on the roads, but I did more joggers/runners than usual: new years resolutions I guess, how many will last!?

Did about 2 hours today , starting at 2 pm....last hour was bloody cold. Feet a lump of ice by the time I got home although I was wearing overshoes, but still better than staying indoors all day.

yes i noticed that around 3 the temp seemed to plummit, which is why i picked the pass up for the last 30 mins, which is why my legs now hurt.
was only supposed to be a leg warmer ready for 4 hours tommorow

Had a nice spin today; 72 miles and some nice hills. The weather was crisp when I left home, but no ice on the cars etc. By the time I'd done 25 miles I was on top of the South Downs, and the weather was a total contrast; all the trees and fields were frozen solid and absolutely white as far as the eye could see, it was like a scene out of Narnia.

It was very picturesque, but bloody cold!

24 miles in zero degrees, very frosty - enjoyed it.
  • Rang my mate just after six am and left the house soon after.

I did 26 miles in total, mainly tow path stuff (had a little go around the local bmx track too)and had a ride on his brand new Trek EX8.
    .
Man what a bike, It simply cruise's over dips, bumps and iced over puddles etc with ease!

Did have aching thighs for the last 2 miles home and the temp did drop alot around 1 ish.

Never saw another MTB or roady all morning.

Yes, I can finally reply to one of these posts!! LOL

I only managed 5.7miles in 25min!!! I know its slow, but im a total newbie and really unfit. It was more the bloody wind noise and runny nose that made me go home in the end.....

I did 17 miles after a night shift. No booze in my system...

Not sure I'd do it again, but you need to get out when the opportunity allows this time of year...fingers were fine, but the toes missed the 2nd pair of socks !!
  • I was on the J2O last night as both 'Designated Driver' and 'Dedicated Athlete'. However I waited until 10:30 this morning before setting off to let things warm up a bit.

Plan A of riding around Hillingdon for 3 hours to see how much boredom I could cope with was thawted by arriving at the circuit to find a (Vets?) race taking place. I needed to come up with a hasty Plan B that didn't involve any of my normal lanes based routes and that would get me home before lighting up time.

Hence a run out to Wendover and back on the A413. 3 Hours, 20 minutes and I managed to cycle past Deep Mills Dinner twice without stopping for a cuppa and bacon sarnie

Bidons too cold to drink, my nose a fountain of snot, but at least my new Prendas 'winter weight' undervest proved itself.
  • Planned to but didnt get home till 4am, woke up at mid-day with a horrific hangover, met the boys for some grub and ended up drinking two more bottles of beer.

I now feel like crap and that's it, I'm officially on the wagon and in full on training mode...as from tomorrow.

25 miles VERY gentle (even by our standards!) CTC "D" Team social pedal, 50/50 tarmac and riverside tracks. Nice cafe break. A GOOD start to the year.
Forecast for tomorrow seems to include ice, so I might just have a lie in rather than my usual 7.30-9.30 exercise.

First ride since September, ~50 miles from Oxford to Henley and back, a bit over 3 hours. And I'd never been up Watlington Hill before, which was fun.

Verdict: It was cold, and I need overshoes. Still, a good workout and once I warmed up at home I was glad I went.

unfortunately not - too "tired" after last night. I'm a bit scared of going out in these freezing temperatures - I came off on ice last year and don't want to repeat the experience. The roads seem dry enough but I'm sticking to my rollers for now.
I also wanted to eat lots of comfort food today so it was a rubbish start to my 2009 campaign. I'm definitely going to be back into it tomorrow though.

I was planning on doing about 25-40 miles, but I thought I'd get my cycle camera working and did about 8 miles trying to get the damn thing working, might do 15 or so tomorrow, not too much as Saturday will be over 100 miles most probably.

The wife and I did a 40-mile leg shredder yesterday. It felt much better having finished than it did at the time!

Not a fan of NYE or hangovers, so I was in bed by 12.30am the night before...

Managed 16 miles in the wind around 7pm, not so cold on Worthing seafront, but great start to the New Year ! :D
    My knees hurt !
  • Got to sleep at 9.30am on New Years day 8) so there was no riding for me. Desperately tried to stay up to see the programme on Eurosport re Cav's year but failed. Woke up again just before it got dark in the afternoon half panicing that my hangover was another flu starting.
  • Out at 9am on New Year's day - managed 23 extremely cold miles on the MTB . Must have been one of the coldest days I've ridden on. Tried to have a drink of water from my Camelbak but it had frozen on the ride!!

Back in work today so rode in - still as cold. Roll on summer!!

Did the new year's day 10 time trial!!
Didn't even let the few flakes of snow just before the start put me off!!

Was dog slow though, just goes to show what 6 weeks of various illnesses does to your form!
  • had abotut an hour out... weather was very chilly!

Out about noon for a 20 mile loop through the New Forest. It was a good time to get out but I did not manage a good time for the loop. The other half said her feet did not warm up until we had been home for about an hour.
I recorded the route on my new toy an Edge 705 so at least later in the year I should be able to see how much I have improved, I hope.
I hope to get out again at the weekend.

I guess just over 1 mile (to pick up the car) on New Years Day doesn't really count?

Made up for it on the 2nd - 74miles.

Day of rest (shopping) today, but should do around 40-50 miles Sunday.

  • Did 90 minutes on my MTB. Am quite pleased as I have done just over 10 hours this week, albeit all on my MTB. 5 of which were on a monster killer ride around the back mountains. Not a huge fan of road riding when its this cold - slippy roads, poor visibility/drunk drivers and high windchill just put me off. Back to evening only rides now, so road bike will be back in use.
