Garmin edge 705 and a MacBook

I have a 305, which is largely the same, and have no problems running it via a MacBook. Check out 'Ascent' as a better option for logging your data than the software that comes with it.

I've just started using my 705 with my new iMac, been using the PC up to now. First impressions are that it operates very smoothly with the 705, the device and any memory card installed in it just appear as devices on my Mac desktop. So you can manually copy map/course data between the Mac and device if you wish. I'm using bikeroutetoaster and the garmin connect website both of which work fine with safari but you'll need a plugin for the browser to transfer data to/from the 705. you'll be directed to a download link the first time you try to upload to garmin connect.0

Thanks for the info.
I've just had a go on the bikeroutetoaster site and it seems very straight forward. Do you still need to buy the sd card with maps if you want to use bikeroutetoaster? Sorry if it may turns out to be a silly question!

depends how you use it
if you turn th BRT into a course with turn points, then you can get away without the maps, but it wont re-route you, wont show the ajoining roads,(well maybe, the base maps are crap)
If you save it as a gpx onto the device, use it as a 'saved ride'. then you get much better turn navigation (pops up a image of the turn as you come to it like in a car sat nav), reroutes you if you go wrong or take a detour0 -
another vote for Ascent software for using your Garmin on the Mac: http://www.montebellosoftware.com/
I have been using this for the past eighteen months and it works great! If you have any specific questions about it please ask.0 -
