Do you have an MTB new year resolution?

Since I'm hopefully going to the Alps this summer, I'm going to try to learn to jump in a more controlled manner beforehand.

And I need to go riding more and work less. Newfound taste for night riding should help in this respect - as should fact that baby is becoming less of a handful.

Also, never going to go on a biking holiday somewhere with big mountains while unfit again, after the pain in Spain this year.

My actual cycling ones are just to keep commuting, and keep doing a proper off-road ride at least twice a month. Shouldn't be a hardship. I've got the idea of doing an XC race in my head, but that just depends on how strong my dodgy leg gets, it might not really be practical.

But my real cycling related one is to learn to drive! Which sounds daft, but I live only 40 miles from Glentress and I can't bloody get my bike there, because the public transport is a joke and won't carry bikes. So, driving licence, cheap scabby car, trips to the 7 stanes on demand, awesomeness ensues.

  • yep, that reminds me, get fitter so that my bike doesn't sit around getting bored while i have a break, ride more so it doesn't sit in the garage and take it on holiday to scotland

I would like to get fitter & drag my mates who have just taken up cycling with me!

I would like to do a 24hr race with the lads & fancy trying a triathlon
  • I want to ride my bike abroad. Visit Schmalding or south France or somewhere like that.
  • To simply get out and ride the bloody thing has to be mine.

Spending far too much time on the sofa smoking and gaming (which I also love, but is doing nothing to reduce the size of my man tits).
Less internal organs, same supertwisted great taste.
  • pull a backflip :D

just joking, mine would be to get out on my bike more and learn some tricks on the dirt

Improve my bunnyhop from 20cm to at least 40cm. :D

Do a 360 (180 endo + 180 wheely), I don't know the name of it, some one knows?
And hopefully my Dart 2 doesn't snap under twisting forces.

More jumping, and do a longer manual 20yards+. :D
  • To put it simply, get out more :D

Ride the South Downs Way from Winchester to Eastbourne (2/3 days)

And start doing yoga (home dvd of course!) to aid flexibility and sort old man neck!

  • simply put, to get one and get out there again. From dog walking i've found some great almost untouched bits of basic but grueling to begin with offroad that I'm itching to fly down

Improve my fitness on the bike.

I just need to get a bit faster is all. Can't keep up the sprints for very long at all.

Deffinatley to improve my fitness, i hate having to push my bike up some climbs, while everyone else spins their way to the top
And i'd like to be able to do some street type stuff, like bunnyhops higher than 1/2mm, and manuals etc.

One thing I would say as well is to improve my out of the saddle hill climbing, I am find as a sit and spin/plod cycler - but standing up and pumping knackers me pretty quick.
  • Thats another reason why I have the bike to improve fitness.

I can kinda do it in SPDs but no chance on flats :( and when I say kinda I mean about kerb height lol
  • I ride clipless so I'm thinking of trying to learn on my OH's teeny tiny hardtail with flaties instead. :)

Yeah, I claim any spare spaces on roofracks... If withdrawal kicks in I guess I could jump on my motorbike and hire a bike from the Hub. Don't want to moan too much, I'm still in a better location for biking than most folks on here!

  • no drinking until end of february or later dependong on the social calendar, so i can use the extra mornings out on the bike, hangovers are a perfectly good excuse not to do anything but its a waste of a morning/afternoon at the same time.

and that in turn should sort out the fitness.
i spent all me money on whisky and beer!!!
  • get out on the bike more, improve fitness and get a decent diet for once!

I'm surprised how many of you want to learn to bunnyhop. Is it a "street" thing that I'm too old to understand?

I can sort of bunnyhop, but it's not something I ever do or feel I need to when I'm actually out MTBing.

i like it cos i can think of some points on the trail where it is useful like scoring more air off jumps and hopping over really gnarly or loose sections. It also basically looks pretty cool, i'd like to do a skills course but it costs too much and i've just shelled out to get my bike back into working order

want to learn to manual well, realy like the look of a manual done well

Wife got me a skills day for Christmas (well done her) so will see if I can include this as all my attempts on the trail are comedy

Otherwise, more midweek night rides to keep fitness up between the weekends and for the grin factor!

    Happy New Year all

Oh, and maybe a new bike if I can make my mind up!
ride your bike like a kid whilst you still can
