What Transmission Groupset

After months bedding in my Giant Trance 3 i am looking for a new groupset. Currently it has a lx front derailleur, with deore shifters, truvativ 5d chainset and powerspline bb and sram pg950 cassette.
I am looking to bring the weight down and also get a better standard of running gear onboard. I am looking at the shimano slx groupset from Merlin. Do you think this would be a worthwhile upgrade or can you guys suggest anything that might fit the bill? Most of my riding is XC, trail centres.

SLX would do just fine, especially the offer at Merlin. Chainset and BB would be a vast improvement - less so with mechs and shifters, but still will be smoother and lighter.0
