Hi
I've been off the bike for over 5 weeks and and am itching to get back on the the bike once my plaster comes off, Can anyone offer some advice on wrist protection/support products and also on any exercises etc?
Thanks
Carl

I guess it depends on the exact nature of your break.
I bust mine (muliple fractures across my distal radius) doing the megavalanche this summer. I managed a whole 2.5 weeks off the bike before I started commuting (gently!) Got the cast cut off (after 5 weeks) 4 hours before I left to go on holiday to Les Arcs for a fortnights riding and hit a 10' gap, 6' drop stepdown on my second day of riding. That felt *GOOD* to land.
I had some treatment from http://www.physioclinic.net/, which may or may not have helped (its a bit snake-oily, but on the other hand I did 2 weeks of bastard hard riding 5 weeks after the break with no problems) , took loads of vitamins and steered clear of tea, coffee and alcohol, all of which impair the bone repair process. Once the cast was off I used a "661 Wrist wrap long" with one of the flexy plastic stiffeners replaced by a piece of aluminium strip to make it rigid, used a Powerball for rebuilding the muscle/tendon strength, and indulged in vigorous self-abuse, well, because I could...
It's been pretty good since - although it does ache in the cold, and it didn't like splitting wood when down at the in-laws over christmas.
Hope that helps!0 -
I smashed my collar bone into 3 pieces. I took 2 calcium supplement tablets every day for about a month. I was biking gently after about 3 weeks and back into it fully after 6 or 7.
However, 2 years later, I've still got a massive calcified lump around the original breaks!0 -
I'm certainly no medical expert, but my partner badly shattered his wrist in february last year and was advised not to even a near a bike (any bike) for 3 months
When you do start riding again be very careful as without doubt any injury affects how you ride and - more importantly - how you fall. Practically Chris's first ride after his accident he came off, landed awkwardly and shattered his thumb :?Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the number of moments that take your breath away....
Riding a gorgeous ano orange Turner Burner!

I smashed my wrist over the summer and made sure i took loads of vitamins and supplements and kept the wrist active even in the case.
I also got a power ball to strengthen it after the cast came off and i go the the oesteopaths 1 a month and its great.
Been riding 5 months since and it still isnt right but its getting there!0
