    Who made the bike? Was it made out of Carbon Fibre? I did a Sportive ride this year and I saw one of the riders pushing in with a set of carbon forks that snapped off; possibly this guy had the same problem.

    It's more to do with the massive loads placed on the frame / forks at that speed. It would need significant strengthening to be put through that, perhaps he didn't bother and used a stock bike.
