Would these brakes and wheels be a decent upgrade?

Hi everyone,
Recently purchased a GT Avalanche 1.0 2008 (non-disc). I'm not looking to upgrade it yet (don't have the money) but when I do I'll be upgrading the brakes first as this is where I feel (especially for the wet) I'll get more bang for buck at the moment.
However, unfortunately the non-disc version of the Avalanche doesn't come with disc ready hubs so I'd either need some new hubs or completely new wheels (my favourable option).
I've found this kit on Merlin Cycles which will only set me back £160.
http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/?fn=product&productId=1200&categoryId=112
It includes a pair of Hayes Stroker Ryde brakes and the wheels are Deore disc hubs handbuilt with stainless steel double butted spokes and Mavic 317 black disc rims.
I'm just wondering if one, I'll need anything else other than whats included to fit them to my bike (assuming they will).
And two, if it will be a noticeable upgrade over what I have currently? I know the brakes should make a difference, more so in wet weather. But I'm more concerned about the wheels not making much difference at all, therefore I might be best off saving up more money and getting some better wheels maybe?
My bike to make it easier for people to have a look is this one.

I'd say that the wheels you have are not as good quality as the ones in your link, they're very basic kit.
Handbuilt wheels are much better built (stronger) & therefore should stay true for a lot longer, plus the hubs/rims are of a better quality than the no name stuff you have.
If you wanted a better hub have a look at the XT hubs, or if you could afford it Hope ProII
The brakeset gets good reviews from the users I know (not tried them myself).
Assuming that the brakes have the correct mounts for your fork then you should get everything you need in the kit.0 -
Are your current shifters combined with the brake levers?0

No mate, they are seperate. Have Deore Shifters I think it is and Avid Single Digit V-Brake Levers at the moment.0

Ah good news, no need to buy new shifters then!
Is a very good deal you have seen. I have those wheels on my old GT Ruckus. Not bad ata ll, great build quality.0 -
I've been looking at that set myself... How do the stroker rydes rate?Uncompromising extremist0

What about throwing your bike in for a bike with disk brakes?0
