Hi there.
I guess it depends what you want them for - they look as aerodynamic as a housebrick...

Nope.
Have a look at this thread:

Earlier editions had a habit of failing, but I think they sorted it out,0 -
I'd love a set of the R-SYS Premiums!
A lot of people hate them because of their lack of aerodynamics and the fact that the earlier ones had a habit of failing, but considering the failures have 'apparently' been sorted they're definitely a classy and sexy wheelset. Not too heavy too, although lighter can be had for the money.
They're also very rare, which is one of the reasons I like them a lot 8)0 -

Hi there.
I've not ridden them either... But I can't see why you'd consider them "classy and sexy" - or why that would be important. Isn't that just marketing?
The wheels look like a solution in search of a problem. Spokes that work in tension and compression? Why? They produce a very stiff wheel, but as you say not the lightest, and certainly not the most aero.
They are very different though, which makes them a marketing man's dream!

Hi again.
That's cool - I don't mind disagreeing, I just wanted to know where you were coming from, and how you came to your conclusion.
Cheers, Andy0 -
I thought that the OP asked if they were any "GOOD"?

As someone who actually owns a pair, I can say they are very good wheels.
The advantage that the traction/compression thing brings to the wheel is the lateral stiffness that is very noticeable over other wheels, and especially wheels of their relative light weight. They don't deflect sideways to any noticeable degree when sprinting or climbing hard out of the saddle, and for me that is a real benefit as I really hate the rub of rim on brake block when working hard up a steep climb. They are also very precise in hard cornering, going very much where you point them.
They are an easy wheel to live with, as are most Mavics, as they stay true under some fairly extreme abuse, are easy to adjust the bearings etc etc.
As I have said before, the aerodynamics issue (or lack thereof) is a benefit to me, for example my Christmas day ride had me on top of the Bwlch (South Wales) in an almost tornado (or so it felt), and keeping a line that stayed on the tarmac was hard enough as it was, any aero spoked or rimmed wheel would have been an absolute nightmare in those conditions.
Overall they are a lightweight wheel that is stiff and robust, now that is a rarity, you generally get 2 of the 3, to get all of them is unusual.Complicating matters since 19650 -
Summary: They are stiff, durable but have poor aerodynamics at speed and are overpriced given their performance (probably at least part of the reason they're rare, Rich).
The Premiums look nice I agree but the goldy 2008 version isn't my bag aesthetics wise.0 -
And can echo the sentiments of the other people here who have posted who actually OWN a pair.
Light and strong - but defo not aero wheels. Great climbing wheels (I live in the peak district) but not great for flat out sprints or speed on the flats.
One of the lightest set of clinchers on the market - and yes, they DO look different.
If you race, forget theses wheels. If you are a sportive rider, do lots of climbing, or just want a solid set of wheels for training - buy these. Shop around for a bargain though - I paid a little over £500 for mine off eBay, making them a decent deal. Not worth the full ££800+ retail.0 -
I picked em up today for £500.00 , they look great , I'm going to use em for a bit of all sorts really ,cyclo cross, training rides and just general hacking about , will post a test report tha morra.0

nice - where did you get them for £500?
they are a smart looking set of wheels anyway!!0 -
