Looking at getting my first rechargable lights (with some money from today  ) and I am undecisive between these three:

Any advice would be gratefully recieved :)

  • Not number two.

I've a lightly used and now superseded number 3 L&M Solo I can post you out to you for £30 if you want or collect from the North West for £25.

I now use a L&M Lion Arc and a helmet mounted AyUp light set which is fantastic.

Look for the dozen other threads that talk about the p7 torch ? For under fifty quid or so you can get a nice v bright light - charger and spare batteries and bike mount.
  • Yeah been looking around tonight and wondering whether a Fenix L2D + Mount would stand up to the first lights I posted (Electron twin 8).

I'm worried about beam spread and don't want to have to buy 2 torches really.
  • Two lights are advisable IMHO,

One on the bike pointing right in front of your wheel.

2nd on your helmet, looking where your going

those electron lights are ok, but they have slightly iffy build quality and naff mounts.

    On 2nd thoughts
    1) Borrow some good lights from a mate (most of us have several sets kicking around) to see if you like night riding (as not everyone does)

    2) Save up some more for some AyUp lights £250

I don't know any of those specific models but having looked at the spec and output, they don't look like they can compete with the P7 torches at all (neither can a Fenix now really, they used to be the ones to go for but not so much now) They have an excellent beam spread, but really 2 torches does make more sense, you can get by with just a helmet light but 2 is always going to be better.

If just having one though, P7 really, has the spread and brightness.
  • Cant comments on the others but dont get the Electron twin led light system. I've had a set for a couple of years now and got them for £40. At that price, not too bad just for road work but no good off road and certainly not at £70 as they are now.

I've got MTE 5 mode P7 on handlebars along with LD20 back-up plus LD20 on helmet. All with twofish lockblocks from 4sevens.com.
  • By the way, got the 2 x LD20's from photonshop before I found the dealextreme site and the infamous MTBR P7 thread. The LD20's out-throw the P7 but the P7 is a wall of light.

As per previous poster, if just one light then P7 although I've now just ordered an aurora M3-2 MC-E flashlight but cant comment on it's output yet but going by the MTBR thread it should be good.

Fenix are very good for run time - you will get something like five hours on high but they cant match the sheer output from the p7. One of each though and you have a good mix - and at under ninety quid. Helmet mount the fenix - its light enough.
