Anyone ever done the C2C from Whitehaven to Sunderland on a cyclo cross bike? I know a couple of guys from work who are planning the trip over 2 days in April next year and they have asked me to go with them. I'm a roadie at heart and don't actually own an MTB at the moment but I do have a Genesis Croix de Fer. Is it doo-able or will I spend more time pushing it than riding it?

All thoughts and advice welcome.

Very definitely doable on a cross bike. In fact I would say it is nearly ideal. I did it on one last year & there isn't really anything too hard. (Although I didn't go up the old coach road)

It will be the off road route.

I did it by mix and matching off/on-road route. The off road alternatives to Hartside and at Stainforth might mean a bit of shouldering the bike but that's all part of the cross fun isn't it!
