...of those bits of sticky tape you get with bar tape?

After a few falls on my winter bike the tape needed replacing on the right side, taped it up all OK.

At this point I normally go to my toolbox or shelf in the garage and grab some insulation tape to finish it off. With this being a black/blue bike with black bar tape I went for the black insulation tape, but none was to be found, and I didn't fancy using red (which I've got loads of) so I used the tape in the box.

You only get 3" or 4" of the tape, but I thought it'll do. It all went down fine - nice and tidy. The next morning I went to the shed, and all the tape had unravelled :x

Why do they bother sticking it in if it's no good? I guess there was always a reason I never bothered with it...........

It's just in there so that you can theoretically finish the job off. Utter rubbish though.

What I tend to do mate is to use insulation tape to hold the bar tape down as you usually would, then cover this with the little bit of tape in the box. This little bit is never enough to hold the tape down, so I'm with you on as to why they put it in. If the insulation tape is wider than this little bit of finishing tape, trim the insulation tape to half its width so it can still be hidden by the finishing tape

What's the point though? The finishing tape was just plain black.......

Ahh, in that case, not much point. The tape I use is Deda, so has the deda logo all over the finishing bit.

Run a hairdryer over it that little bit of tape once fitted. It shrinks to give a great finish that holds.

This tip is useless if you're baldy! (like me*)

[Edit: for clarity] *baldy, not useless

Chuck Norris would use the tape that comes with the bars.

I think Chuck Norris would just tell the bar tape to stick and it would.

Unless the bar tape just happened to be made out of Tony Jaa. (er, don't know how that would work...)

Chuck Norris simply wouldn't use bar tape!

He's far too tough for sissy things like that!
