Heads up on winter sports gear on sale there from the 28th

If anyone has bought their merino thermals before, I'd like to hear your views on the quality.

Cheers

I have never bought anything there yet. Do they give meaningful size info , i.e. real measurements or is clothing just sold as S M L XL XXL etc ?

I have a couple of their thermal tops - good stuff. I think they have sizing alongside measurments on the boxes - but if it doesnt fit - you can always take it back ?

I'm an Aldi virgin too, but since the gear is on sale from the 28th I think by then I will be bored enough of eating and digesting to venture out to the local Aldi.
  • Usually there stuff is good for the price. The last thermal base layers looked quite good, but I had enough to not get any more. The ski jackets, Millets/Blacks have a very good one for £60 in their sale which is probably better than the Aldi one.

I've got aldi stuff and I use it for commuting and it's very good when you consider the price, I'll keep a look out for the merino stuff...cheers linoue !

I've only used their winter gloves, which are great, but I will be looking with interest at the merino tops - thanks Linoue.
  • I have bought plenty of gear from Aldi, I have no shame, generally good quality.
Make sure you try clothing on for size, that seems to be the only downside to their stuff, sizing is a bit random. I'll defo be popping in to get some socks, and check out the sunglasses.

Thanks for the tip , I'll try to remember the date
  • I have bought Aldi winter cycling longs and gloves in the past and found the quality to be quite variable. i.e. good material and good design but with poor stitching.
A year and bit later though, it's still wearable, still warm, and still comfortable and it looks like it will last for at least another winter of daily (7 miles each way) commuting.
Value for money for the cycle commuter who isn't too label concious I'd say.
Also I would agree with other comments about Aldi's sizes and labelling being a bit hit & miss.

Thats good enough for me, looks like it will definately be worth a visit :)

Merry Christmas everyone and a Happy New Year too!

I popped in for a couple of sets of the cheap longs. Seem fine for the price.
Selby branch didn't have the sun glasses though.

I also bought a boot tidy, cushioned seat cover, multi-tool and a single inflatable mattress LMFAO

Oh, and also a bonsai tree for me mam :D

Believe me, at £15 for a merino top they are very cheap! A 100% merino base layer is usually about £50!

There are some issues with washing them though. If you do go for the 40 degree wash (as recommended) they will shrink! I've picked up a XL size so when I wash it I'll have my normal L size after.

They have merino 1/4 zipped tops in from Sunday. A heavier weight than the base layers, should be nice and toasty! :D
