......made the mistake of introducing my lad to it......man it gets in to your bones...i need all my spare time for the bike but i'm finding myself sat on the computer trying to beat a machine :x

    I played it as a kid. Several months ago - p!$$ed as a fart - played a mate on MSN .
    Next thing I knew Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition came through the letter box. That was a bad drink-fuelled idea. XFire says I've only lost 34 hours of my life to it but I know it must be at least 3 times that. :(

    Spent hours playing chess on my Commodore 64 long long ago...

    Most of those hours were spent waiting for the game to reload from the tape every time i wanted to start a new round :D
  • It did make for interesting telly though, when Nigel Short took on - and IIRC got thumped by - Gary Kasparov. Quite incredible intellects involved there, which is precisely the reason why I give the pastime a very wide berth!!
