What Pedals?

I need to get a new set of flat pedals because the cheap ones that came with my bike are now knackered and only have forged pins and the bearings are now completley ******
What pedals would you recommend for £30 max. Need to have sealed bearings, suit general trail riding and last well
many thanks, Yukon Lad

yep had alook at them, seemed rather good but one review said that for trails riding you needed to get an XL pin kit to aid grip, has anybody else had this problem

I've got some dmr V12's on ebay. Sure they will go for a lot less than 30 quid. Brand new they are about 40 quid. If you wanted brand new, you could consider v8s or the wellgo v8/v12 copies.0
-
Or Wellgo V12, seen for less than 30 (the DMR are in effect copies of the Wellgo pedals, as Wellgo make them for DMR!).
MG1 better tan all of them though really!0 -
The MG1 doesn't lack grip, the only time I've come unpedalled is when I've completely unweighted a foot through, well, stupidity. And the pins are plenty big and sharp enough for me thanks (ow. ow) I fitted these to replace V8s and they're no less grippy.Uncompromising extremist0

Wellgo MG-1
I love them cheap and light and all pins still grippy after a year.
But the only thing is, cant really find replacments.0 -
thanks, how can DMR look to sell their products at £20 more than most wellgos when they are made of the exact same materials, in the same factory and preform the same, like some clothes, both made in india by some poor child in the same factory but ones got someone elses name on it.Drop, Berm, Jump, Sky, Sky, Sky, Sweet Beautiful Earth OUCH, OUCH,OUCH, ****! Same as jeans mate.
Diesel are 100.00+ and tesco are like a tenner and they are probably made in the same place and they are jean material.
Its the name.
And they are not made of the same material as Wellgo's are lighter than any DMR'S.
They must be made different.0 -
I'm pretty sure that its been said before that the DMR pedals ARE made by Wellgo in Tawain(?).
But DMR is, I believe, an English bike company.

So surely, that blows the old "wellgo are the same as dmr" argument out of the water?
Is that difference in material, a light better or lighter cheaper?
Different materials also point to a different manufacturing process on what will probably be different production lines (perhaps in the same factory - Landrovers and Jags are made in the same building in Liverpool but you'd expect the jag line to be more highly scrutinised) and almost definitely different quality standards and I can't say I've seen people complaining about the quality of dmrs.0 -
I have no complaints after a year.
And how do they get the wellgo lighter than the DMR it must be made different.
Wellgo is DMR
I have seen complaints about everything, DMR's to wellgo's to race face, everyone will always have a gripe.
But I would rather buy 2 sets of wellgo's than 1 DMR v12 mag.0 -
wellgo have a catalogue of dozens of flat pedals - is more than one 'copy'! Mg1 is not a v12 mag, but does have same bearings, and a lighter build. Many more mag wellgos, cant get them all here.0
-
Yeah, it's daft to call the Wellgos copies as they're not really the same, that's just a label some sellers have stuck on them to help convince people to buy them. The Wellgos are, well, better! Not as strong but lighter.
From what I've seen the Wellgos are also better finished, than the V8s at least- my black V8s turned largely silver after only a couple of rides, the MG1s have done the same but it took a bit longer (and more mud).Uncompromising extremist0 -
haha i think were getting our wellgo MG1 fan club again!0

If you find me something better, I'll recommend thatUncompromising extremist0

thanks for the help am probably going to order some of them. One thing on my mind is that one site said that magnesium doesn't take scrapes and hits as well as alloy pedals but that might just be a lod of crap but i'm not sure, is alloy better for durability because my bike is a cheap full-sus then its not like its the first thing i'd think of to cut of weight so unless they're riduculously heavy then i'm not that bothered about weight.

Yeah, most magnesium alloys are softer than simple aluminium alloys, it's a tradeoff weight vs strength there. They're not weak, mine have survived a fair number of clumsy rock strikes, but they're not going to be as tough as some others. I think you just need to judge your own riding here really.Uncompromising extremist0

you would have to be off your tits to not consider the mg1 if you are looking for a well sealed, light platform pedal at a superb price.
we should get a club badge made up0 -
I lost an ebay auction on a set of these end of last week which put me off the scent for a pair - but I WILL get some! may just do a buy it now from HighOnBikes.
Are the Ti axle ones only available from abroad (seem to to only be Aus dealers on ebay with them) and are they really like £30 more?0 -
i did a buy it now and they cost 31 quid inc postage form high on bikes, top notch.0
-
yep, probably do a nice big order off their shop and get other stuff like mudguards cos their pricing is below rrp as well, they have some good mace gloves for only £15 but i'd hav to see if i can find a shop to try them on and see if that is the cheapest price, does anyone know a shop that stocks them.
the gloves in question are Mace MXE Comps
