On Merlin for £20 a pair of Panaracer Fire XC's steel bead 2.1's. Any good?? I'm running Cinders at the moment which are running low so im looking for something to replace them with, they are excellent but expensive now at £25each, so these Fire's for £20 seem cheap, but I want something that is good allround, like a cinder!

I use them all year round. They are the single compound version with the coarser weave, hence the cheap price.Northwind wrote: It's like I covered it in superglue and rode it through ebay.0

i have them on mine. Not had them long and paid £25 from All Terrain Cycles. I'm impressed with them so far. I found them a swine to get on though2014 Whyte T-129S0

I think they are utter crap on anything but bone dry dusty trails, and this time of year with all this rain, i wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. Most of the guy's i ride with think the same. We all got them to do the South Downs Way and regretted it as soon as it got muddy!
For what it's worth, i am currently running a super tacky Highroller up front and a Trailraker out back, and even in really deep mud they are spot on.0 -
In my opinion Fire XCs are a awful and very over rated tyres. I had them on my bike for two rides before I took them off on stuck them on e bay. Front end grip is poor in wet conditions and they get clogged up with mud very easily.
Despite being one of the lowest cost components on a bike, tyres can make a massive difference to the performance of the bike. For that reason, I don't think its worth sacrificing performance to save a few quid (unless you are really skint of course ) If you are happy with the Cinders, stick with them.

ive got them and not had a problem other than mud0

Typical, I asked for a pair for x-mas.
Oh well.
What are they like on the road?0 -
They're not too bad for an XC tyre on the road but not as good as a race tyre with smaller tread. I regularly commuted 17/18 miles each way with them on over the summer and found them OK.
Offroad they don't handle the mud all that well but i'm happy enough with one on the back. Nowhere near as much grip up front as the ST High Roller i use at the moment though
They are good for what they are designed for but these 'do it all' tyres always have their limitations.0
