Sorry, Jamey, but I'm demob happy and feeling cheeky

I have owned my bike since April and barring one day when the tyres were a bit flat and slowed me down, I have had 941 trouble-free miles

Ps obviously bad karma or something will now ensue.......
Emerging from under a big black cloud. All help welcome

Haha... I wondered how long it'd be before somebody started a "things that don't..." thread. Or a copycat one with even worse luck than me, but maybe that's not possible ;)

    Nice one.

I will no doubt seal my own fate here, but I bought my tourer in May for doing JoGLE fully loaded up and had 1000 trouble free miles over the 10 days. :)

I now use it everyday for commuting and am up to 2400 miles and so far all i have done apart from some air in the tyres and some oil on the chain and twist the brake lever back after i crashed, apart from that all trouble free.....still no punctures too..woohoooo

done about 2000 miles on the road bike this year too and thats only had 1 x chain snap and no punctures..woohoo

The mountain bike however....don't even go there!

    FCN 4 sometimes
  • In roughly ten years of cycling, as a tyke, I can only remember two (perhaps three) punctures. Then, on the bike I had before Ol' Bouncy came along this October, I had no punctures in six years.

Admittedly, that was after it caught an end-of-season puncture, I put it away unfixed, and had outgrown it come the spring...

Maintaining my fleet is becoming an ever increasing task, I usually have at least one on-going problem at any given time.

My wife on the other hand has had a cheap Halfords bike for over two years, never cleans it or does anything to it and it works perfectly, not one problem.

I'm saying nothing. Last time i said something like that, I had 12 months of bad bike luck. Had a puncture which i fixed easily but my pump broke. Then my rear mech committee suicide by jumping into the back wheel. Some other things happened, then the year was capped off by a taxi driver knocked me off on the way home from work and broke my back wheel and rear mech again.

    My lips are sealed.

I bought my SS bike a year ago
During the first 120 miles I got 4 punctures
After that I bought some Conti Gatorskins for it
somewhere in the 3500 -4000 mile region later and I've had just one puncture, incurred when I rode over a big stone in the road - so it was a pinch puncture. New brake blocks just been bought and also discovered that my chain is near enough worn out, meaning I can now justify a bigger ring or smaller sprocket or both. (expect a thread about ring size, started by me and posted to mainly by GregT in the very near future)
The Gatorskins have been very good to me, last week I had to pull into a shop and borrow their track pump - I found something hard embedded in the front tyre. Deflated it, took out the small and sharp shard of glass, then pumped up and was on my way, a bit of a gash in the tyre but it's still intact.
My theory on "when to change a tyre" being "when you start getting a lot of punctures" means these tyres could well go on forever!

The Gods will now descend upon me with furious vengance and puncture fairies of course.
    "Impressive break"

    "Thanks...

    ...I can taste blood"
  • Nothing seems to go wrong with my bikes.

Things go wrong with me instead... :(

I had my wheels turned into a couple of bannna shaped objects by a Fiesta and I snapped the valve off an inner tube when loading the wheels into my car.

I just can't hold those two things against the bike.

Never suffered a problem with my Dawes. I've never even punctured through it's Vittoria Randonneurs. And I don't exactly avoid sharp things.

Road bikes have been fine - this year was just a Dura Ace headset (last one only lasted 18 years)....nothing else on either 2 road bikes.

MTB commuter has had a number of bits replaced due to wear or upgrade.... new XT pedals, new XT Mech, new XT Canti's (old school MTB), new wheels and a new freehub on new wheels, new tyres, new big chainring, two chains/cassettes, and new lights all round during the year
