Do arm warmers ever stay up?

The warm(ish) weather today had me venturing outside without full thermals, just arm and leg warmers. Leg warmers are fine, but the arm warmers never stay up. I have small Enduras with an upper opening circumference of 240mm. My upper arms are 280mm relaxed, and the warmers reach over the bulge of my bicep muscle, which means they should be held up. They're not.

As I see it, there's only 2 options available to me.
1. Tie them to my arm with string. I'd have to do so very tightly, which means that my circulation would probably be cut, and I'd be left without arms, steering with my teeth. On the upside, if I have no arms, I'll need no arm warmers...
2. Stop cycling now, take up a new hobby of eating burgers. By next winter, my arms should be fat enough to hold the damn things up, and I can stay warmer through the extra effort to move my body weight around anyway.

  • Put a tie that goes from one to the other. You know like the ones on toddlers mits :D
Must say my DHB ones were OK for the first 4 months but now are starting to slip, could be them stretching or me losing weight who knows?
  • I have Castelli arm warmers, they stay up and furthermore they also cut the blood circulation off to the arms. Trust me....they do stay up but you cant brake.

  • using 19 year old lusso arm warmers, and they have never let me down

get to the gym a bit and build your upper arms a little?

will rid you of the ridiculous "cyclist physique" of thick legs and "malnutrition" upper body!
  • I find it tends to be the more expensive the arm warmers the more likely they are to slip down. I've been most impressed with the Prendas Armwarmers, http://www.prendas.co.uk/details.asp?ty ... 14&ID=1037
which so far seem to stay up, they're actually comfortable too.
  • I have a pair of assos arm warmers and they fit perfectly. Only a tiny bit more expensive than other brands and they come in two sizes, small for those who have a "cyclist physique" and larger for those who wanna be beefcake. Im one of the former....upper body muscle is just extra weight :P

I couldn't find any that stayed up until I found the Assos ones. They're very good.
  • Yup, They always stay up, and i have them tucked under the jersey sleeves. Over the sleeves just looks so damned silly.

    There's an idea...

Anyone know where I can get a fleece lined lycra shrug? When are Assos due to bring one out?

My £3 warmers from the Nike outlet shop are absolutely fine. Also my £5 Biemme leg warmers are fine too despite just being a big tube with zero design features.

It's the leg warmers that let me down.

I set out feeling like Superman, all lycra'd up with everything in the right place. 8) 8)

20 minutes into my ride, I've got two fleshy stocking-top smiles twixt shorts and the top of the LW's and I feel like some plump queen dressed up for the Time Warp.

    Nope, you've lost me there.

Same here if I'm wearing baggies. It's not a problem with proper lycra shorts though.

Can't say that I've ever had a problem with arm warmers - and I've got weedy arms like ET!

But there's never one around when you want one, then 3 come along at the same time.

I'm not comfortable hanging around outside GOMA where the goths hang out, either.

I had some DHB arm warmers in small/medium that didn't even come close to staying up. I then got some Nalini ones in a proper small and they're perfect.

a lot of arm warmers dont have the elasticised rubber grips at the top.....this is what you need...and in the right size of course.

+1 for the Prendas - best armwarmers I've had by far and they look pretty good too

What are you lot talking about arm warmers and leg warmers for? It's the depths of winter! It may be mild today but that doesn't mean risking exposing FLESH! That just means one less layer under all the winter fleecy stuff............

.................... well it does for me anyway. :D

Seriously, tho, my arm and leg-warmer season usually lasts for about 2 rides. They're obviously an ace idea but in practice I seem to either want full longs and full sleeved jersey or short everything. I'd love to give my arm and leg warmers more use but it just never happens. (And definitely not in December!)

I seem to wear my arm warmers all summer :? It's rare for it to be that warm in North Wales. I spent a lot of the summer wearing my Gilet aswell....

That never bothers me. I think if people are going to take the p!ss out of my appearance, it'll be because I'm wearing head-to-toe lycra, not cos I've got armwarmers tucked over the ends of my sleeves. Mine (Nikes, dunno what type, they were a present) would never stay up if they were under my sleeves.

Even in the depths of winter, on subzero days, I can get too warm with long sleeves under my jacket, especially on a hilly ride (most of mine are), so I go for short sleeves+arm warmers, then I can ditch the sleeves if I need to. Especially on the days it starts freezing and ends up quite mild.
