    Recently i've had song lyrics that could relate to certain attitudes I have towards cycling. Currently it's a lyric from The Jams "Funeral Pyre".

    Here are a few of my favourites I've had in the past:

    Mine comes from a Captain Beefheart song that goes (IIRC):

    BH: A squid eating dough in a polyethythene bag is fast and bulbous,
    Refrain: fast and bulbous! fast and bulbous!
    BH: Also a tin teardrop
    Refrain: Bulbous also tapered!

    I have absolutely no idea what this is supposed to mean (nor, I suspect did Captain Beefheart) but it makes me laugh.

    also, it reflects pretty accurately various photos of 16 stone me in lycra, riding a carbon fibre bike, but that doesn't make me laugh.

    Fast AND bulbous?

    I thought ye canna change the laws of physics...

    I believe that Beefheart was a serious cyclist until he was caught with some blood in his cocaine sample.

    Another cracker is in "Dirt Devil" by Butthole Surfers, where the lead singer extols the virtues of the portable vacuum cleaner by shouting, "He's got the power of an upright in his God-damn hand." Nice. :wink:

    As pneumatic has copyright here on 'Fast and Bulbous' and Don Van Vliet is a particular hero of mine also I'll settle for the above : the title track of an ancient album from the great man .

    Everytime I look at my Litespeed I want to strip it of the crap looking decals and always think of that line .

    Someday , perhaps . :P

    BTW , ...that one about 'the Beatles dying in the wrong order ' : that's , er , ...harsh ! :D :P
