  • Some real news about the Vuelta route at last:

    A summary from As.com

    Los detalles
    Contrarreloj. Habrá tres: Assen (1ª etapa, 5 km), Valencia (7ª, 35 km) y Toledo (20ª, 30 km).

Five mountain top finishes - 1st paragraph above. They are not going to the Pyrenees or the Asturian mountians this year. Three of the mountain finishes will be on consecutive days. There will also be two more mountain stages.

Three short time trials, none longer than 35km, one is in Valencia and the decisive one in Toledo

The Vuelta will start in Holland with three stages there and then one in Belgium
It will only be the second time the Vuelta has started outside of Sapin. The first time was in Portugal.

There will be 20 or 21 teams to be announced later. All must have the biological passports.

  • Can't wait. A stage start in my cycling clubs hometown Berja, and 3 mountain stages to watch near by. Vamos!

The best route since 1999 in my opinion (and the best of 3GT in 2009), a great susprise.

No many TT (4,5+30+30km) but a lot of mountains stages (real mountain stages no "tipycals Unipublic mountain stages) and very good medium mountain stages:

    Two marathons of climbs

    http://www.lavuelta.com/09/ingles/recor ... a9.asp?e=9

    Medium mountain:

    The queen stage:

    More wood:

    http://www.lavuelta.com/09/ingles/recor ... 4.asp?e=14

And in final week two nice medium mountain stages:
    http://www.lavuelta.com/09/ingles/recorrido/etapa18.asp
Navacerrada stage (mistake in the web)

At least a good route in the Vuelta (and without Angliru)

Does this mean that we will only get coverage at weekends and of the main stages? :?

No don´t worry about that, In Spain people are obsessed with audiencie/share on TV (i don´t know how to say it) and in cycling it´s much better in weekends. (also people in roads)

great route! three stages all close to my folk's villa out on the costa blanca. the stage to aitana looks good, i use the roads around there a lot....does anyone know if the aitana climb is open to the public? I remember setting out to go up it but when I got there there seemed to be no-entry signs, military or something.....is this the case or had I just got to the wrong road?

Very interesting. Seems la Vuelta is doing the opposite of the Giro and Tour. While Giro and Tour this year (and last year) seem to want to spread the decisive moments for the general classement over the full three weeks, with early medium mountains stages very early on and the toughest mountain top finish stages at the very end, the Vuelta has concentrated all its decisive stages in the second week, particularly in three days in Andalucia.

Funny detail, the Vuelta calls the transfers between stages 'recorrido neutralizado', neutralized route, as if the riders do them on the bike but they just don't count for the competition; would love to see them do that Liege-Tarragona stretch :)
