Decathlon Freeride/ Enduro bikes

I can't really justify splashing a lot of money on an expensive DH bike but there's always a few days throughout the year where I fancy an uplift day. I was having a look on the Decathlon site and I spotted these

Knowing the VFM the decathlon stuff usually represents are these worth looking at? Even the £500 effort doesn't look half bad. Decent brakes, Howitzer cranks, basic SRAM shifters and mechs. No idea about the fork but Suntour generally makes decent budget stuff.

The £1000 model has Rockshox Domains, better SRAM kit, Hayes Nine brakes.

They're both heavy at just under 40lbs but afterall they aren't really designed to ride uphill.

Any thoughts or experiences?

  • they look pretty good actually, good for a starter free ride bike! , i might actually look more in to the £500 one because i could do with a basic full sus to keep me going. i have a hardtail as wel. i could easily change the forks and other parts. (my shed is full of spare parts & stuff)

I wouldn't trust the KindShock on the cheaper one at all - looks very similar to the shocks KS make for the 100 quid supermarket specials. I don't know if the X Fusion coil on t'other is any good either. The effectiveness of the suspension system is unknown too.

Worth looking at the Carrera banshees too.

Don't like the look of that monopivot Decathlon - way to high pivot position, be loads of pedal kickback.
  • actually , no I think i'l stick to the one i was going to get anyway.

I've ridden one of these and I think it was pretty good for 500 quid
Its a single pivot rear suspension which worked well
The front fork didn't flex under braking from the 203mm discs either
Even comes with Kenda Nevagal stickee tyres and all for £500
  • from what i can see for £500 its a good starter to fr/dh

If you're gonna spend upto a grand on a bike, I would look at sale bikes, e.g. Kona Stinky 08 for less than £1000 if you shop about.
  • i',m really tempted to get this bike.
Decathlon will be exchanging my 6.3 for a new one since they dont have the parts to repair mine :D but i have the option to add the differnce and get another bike

if i add £150 i can get the 6FR and be able to do some light DH/freeride. Or get one of the other much better spec hardtails and remain with regular XC trails. the haro ( i think sonix) FS bike also looks well specced.

Gut wants the 6FR but i'm thinking i'm going to be hauling an extra 3Kgs up hills neither do i fancy the looks (if only that top tobe was straight).

i'm really confused and pondering the issue in my mind
  • Now that i have some spare forks, and a spare rear shock, i might actually be tempted to buy the £500 one and replace all of the crappy parts, because it has the looks i think..
