New chain - Powerlink
Asking this might open me up to ridicule, but I've decided it's worth it:
I fitted a new chain at the weekend (or tried to) but although connecting the Powerlink seemed as if it would be a simple process from the instructions, it turns out it requires the strength of an ox (or more strength than I have, anyway). Are they supposed to be so hard to snap into place, or am I somehow managing to get even this simple process horribly wrong?

Powerlinks are generally pretty easy to fit - getting them apart can be a bit more tricky. If you're having problems, check that the link is the right width for the chain being used - the links usually have the number 8,9 or 10 stamped on the side. However, some 10 speed chains are narrower that othersMake mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Hi - how were you doing it
You might find one of those chain hook tools useful for holding the chain. They are quite cheap, and can be easily made from an old flat/blade spoke.0 -

Just pulling the chain either side of the link with my hands. A method that merely confirmed my weakling status.0 -

Okay, so standing on the pedal worked, thanks. Unfortunately I now have a stiff link (one end of the Powerlink is okay, but at the other end the fit seems too tight and is restricting movement). It's an eight-speed chain and I bought an eight-speed Powerlink, so I'm at a bit of a loss as to what's happened. Does this sound like an easily solved problem?
Thanks again.0
