As I was cycling through Deganwy this evening, I saw a small police van coming toward me with a headlight out. It turned off into a housing estate and stopped, so I followed. By the time I turned they'd moved on a bit, so I kept going. This continued for a while until I caught up with them and told them they were a light down. They were kind of thankful, and then asked me for directions to a particular street, 'cause they were lost!

    Love it!

Came down my road a couple of years ago, a little country lane in Essex, in wet weather always covered with mud, with deep ditches (5-6' deep) on either side...

Came round the corner, was waved down by a policeman on foot. Put the window down, and said 'can I help you? Did you walk all the way out here?'

'No,' plod replies. 'Do you have a tow rope?'

'No, but I live just down the road, I'll pop home and get one. Let's have a look first though.'

And they were in the ditch. Like all the way in the ditch. Car grounded out on its side, 2 wheels in the ditch, 2 wheels in the air. No chance I was going to be able to pull them out, so called the farmer out who arrived with a tractor and dragged them out.

I'd been very polite up to this point... commenting on how slippery the road is etc. Farmer, salt of the earth type bloke, turns to them and says 'now don't go so bl**dy fast next time!'

    2 very sheepish policemen!

Actually I know what you mean, I have met probably only one copper like that, but he left an indellible mark (and was funny as f*** in an odd way). He thought ladies loved his uniform too.
