Brakes

I've had my 09 rockhopper for a few months now and ride for a probably 3-4 hours a week. At cannock last week I came off, at full pelt, resulting in very bloody shins and the handlebars twisting round quite hard.

My problem is: since my crash my rear brake lever seems to have a lot more play (sorry if this is the incorect terminolgy) as it did before. It works fine I just have to pull it alot further back.

Sorry if there is an obvious problem here but I'm farely new to this, cheers :D

I take it you've checked all of the connections / outer cable casing, as the handlebars twisted, something may have pulled through.

Have you tried tightening the brake?

  • do you have cable brakes or hydraulic?

If cable, as above may need tightening and also if they are cable disc brakes, perhaps the stationary pad needs to be adjusted further inwards due to wear.

if they are hydraulic i have no much experience
  • Have a look at this thread for hydraulic brakes http://www.bikeradar.com/beginners/foru ... t=12598054

edit: i am assuming you mean travel before bite point, and not play as in the levers are loose.

That'd be the one: Travel. They're hydrolic. Just read the link; a friend also suggested the pads could need changing. cheers guys
