Does anyone think some sort of club/organised group database might be useful on Bike Radar - or have I missed something completely obvious that already exists on here?(If so - sorry  )
I was just thinking that there seem to be quite a lot of queries about clubs/groups in areas and having some sort of database/sticky might help?

I know British Cycling has a database of clubs - but these are only clubs affiliated to BC - and there are plenty of clubs/ loose associations of riders that aren't affiliated to anyone.

I guess it could just be as simple as a sticky where people can post details of their clubs?

Cheers
P.

I think this is a good idea - though I suspect most groups of mountain bikers are loose affiliations of people who fancy a ride rather than organised clubs. There must be 100's of such groups in the popular areas in the South East. Perhaps we need a mountain biking Facebook page or similar?

I guess you're right about most groups being loose affiliations rather than organised clubs - but I think it would be useful to have some sort of "logical" database on here - perhaps organised on a county basis so people can look in their immedite area easily?

A club/group database on this website is a good idea that's been suggested before...still no sign of it though.

Well why don't we start with this thread and post what we know in the hope others will do the same. I suggest we start with location and then give more details people can read if location is relevant to them.

My usual ride is in Surrey just South-East of Guildford starting in a village called Shalford.

We usually ride around St Martha's, Blackheath, Newlands Corner, etc. for about an hour and half on Saturday mornings. Occasional longer trips further afield - usually out Dorking way Holmbury, Leith Hill, Box Hill, etc.

We are a group of late 30's/ increasingly early 40's blokes with anywhere from 3-10 people depending how many show up. Normal range of abilities you would expect - though no-one is what you would call competitively fast. Usual meet is 8:30 Saturday morning in Station Road, Shalford.

Seems like a plan. See below for details of YOGi Rides based in Plymouth.
For all rides during the winter; you will need good lights, particularly for mountain biking.

Tuesday Mountain Bike Ride - meet at B&Q Marsh Mills, Plymouth 6:30pm.
This ride usually covers around 20 miles in 2 hours or less and is very fast and technical. Definitely not for novices. Imagine race pace but more technical and you’ll get some idea of what this ride is like – great training. The group meets and decides where to ride on the night. Ride continues right through the year.

Thursday Adventure Mountain Bike Ride - meet 7pm at different venue each week. (See website for details and PLEASE MAKE CONTACT BEFOREHAND)
A more relaxed alternative to Tuesday’s ride. This ride generally covers under 20 miles and usually takes place on the moor. The plan is that you go to the meeting point and then drive out onto Dartmoor to the ride starting point. After the ride you have the option of visiting a local pub to recount the evening’s adventure. It is important that you bring spare clothing to leave at your car just in case you endo into a bog or leat. Ride continues throughout the year and no matter what the weather.

Tuesday & Thursday Road Ride - meet at B&Q Marsh Mills, Plymouth 6:30pm
2 groups ride Tuesday evenings; 1 fast, 1 steady pace. Thursday evening; 1 group - pace tends to be steady.
Meet and then decide on a route. Ride distance is normally around 30 miles in 2 hours or less. We use quiet roads, so expect plenty of climbing. This is nothing like your average chain-gang experience.

Monthly Fun Mountain Bike Ride - 1st Saturday of each month meet 10am at different venue see website for details.
The idea of this ride is to introduce people to some proper off-roading. You may have got bored with trolling up and down the same old cycle-path. Meet new people and enjoy some new trails. Nothing too demanding, and the pace is very much that of the slowest rider. Some expert riders even turn-up just to do a bit of socialising. Ride distance is usually no more than 15 miles but expect to be out for up to 4 hours – so bring some food.

Monthly Fun Road Ride - 3rd Saturday of each month meet a 10am (see website for details)
Fed-up with riding on your own but you don’t think you’re fast enough or fit enough to ride with a club? Then this is the ride for you. Ride with a group at a steady pace suited to the slowest rider. We adjust the length of the ride to suit those taking part and usually incorporate a cake stop if the weather is okay.

In addition to these rides we occasionally organise extra rides, so keep an eye on the website or why not sign-up for our weekly email update.

With all our rides we guarantee that you will receive a warm welcome.

sounds like a damn good idea to me too. we are a group of three/four riders at present, we have been riding together for 18 months or so. we have found that family commitments seem to keep getting in the way of riding so we figured if we could find more people who wanted to ride with us the more chance there would be of having someone to ride with when, family, work , pets, health, etc allows. we are based in weston-super-mare and like to get out at least 1 or 2 nights a week and as many weekends as possible. night rides are usualy on the mendips and weekends wherever the mood takes us . we ride at the speed of chat are non competitive [hence name] welcome anyone novice or veteran and never ever leave anyone behind unless they are a right miserable bugger. we have no firm riding days at present but if your interested you can email me at n.witham@sky.com for dates and times.

    Treads Cycle Club

Meet Wednesday Evenings at 18:30 for a couple of hours of MTB'ing round Northampton/Harlestone Heath.

Meet Sunday mornings at 08:30 for about 20-30 miles of Off-Road adventures on a variety of routes around Northampton. Sunday rides go at a more "social" pace (as fast as the slowest rider) and there's always plenty of advice and help.

Meet up at Delapre Abbey Golf Course carpark for Wednesday and Sunday rides.

Club trips to other events and areas also "organised" every so often!

Also some road rides (if you like that sort of thing  ) organised on Saturdays - check the website for details.

For extra information, contact details or just to say Hi or ask questions check out the club website :
