Victoria Pendleton and Red Lights

From today's Guardian:

Guardian: Do you ever cycle through red lights? You know, when the pedestrian lights are green?

Pendleton: No, I never do that. I'm quite tempted to do it, but I don't, simply because I feel there are enough cyclists who give us a bad name [a reckless Small Talk weaving through north London on his high nelly being one] and as a consequence I don't want to give anybody a reason to have a go, so I tend to stick exactly by the rules.

irrelevant. I've heard she prefers older blokes. preferably a touch overweight, and very hairy.

Did you know that somewhere in Utah, Merrily Bendytoy is being used a punishment for people found guilty of disturbing their neighbours? If anyone is found to actually like any of the tracks, they are immediately removed from the play list.

  • So, do people hang on every word she says:-

    (a) because she is a world champion
    (b) because she is hot
    (c) because you just realised she was hot after the makeover and some really good promo shots?

For me it's a) mostly, and also because she's a cyclist who's famous enough to be interviewed!

Are you maintaining with c) that

    a) she's not actually hot
    or
    b) you knew she was hot before she became famous?

I`m sure I read somewhere recently that it is perfectly legal for cyclists to go through red pedestrian lights, unless I dreamt it.Anyway I do it all the time now, even when there are police around and I`ve never had a problem.Perhaps someone should tell Victoria or perhaps i`m competely wrong.

Mmm. Tricky. I was aware of the name after she was famous enought to be on Eurosport, but not famous enough to be in the papers. I'm not sure if I would have hung on her every word or not, because she was not famous enough for anyone to interview her.

Is she actually hot? She was definitely measureably cuter than Nicole Cook, even before the excellent promo shots, but it is also true to say that her profile and perceived hotness have increased over time.

I am also genetically predisposed to respond more favourably to good looking people.

We live in a society where the only views that count are those of the celebrity. As her fame has increased her views have become more important.

In her defence, her "celebrity" while based on a good makeover are also in part due to her natural talent and hard work. I'd much rather hear her views than thos of the millions of z list no-talent celebs we are usually forced to see splashed across the news. Too numerous to mention but my starters for 10 - Jodie F-in Marsh, Paris F-in Hilton, Jordan, Amy druggie Winehouse, Lily "oh I was brought up on a council estate (just happened to go to a dozen private schools and my mum was a BBC producer!) Allen blah blah blah.

Damn - seriously annoyed now. May even have to go out on the bike, in the rain, to calm myself down!!!
