I tried to stop the hot aches once (only once) by rinsing my hands under the hot tap. Christ. I'm not doing that again.

I am laughing so much at the pain you must have inflicted on yourself.

When the batteries in your Fenix runs out in a day because you have had to use it on the way into work and on the way back.

I just hope to god I don't get knocked off my bike by Angelina Jolie and she takes me back to her place to recover and the awful effect of the cold is laid bare, as it were.
    That worries me.

Is your user name inspired by this scenario too?
  • ...you'd rather spend 20 minutes dropping and struggling with your bike lock keys rather than take your gloves off

...and then you spend a further 20 minutes dropping and struggling with your bike lock keys because you have taken your gloves off and your fingers have ceased to be part of your person.

Oh and your bike lock is actually frozen. So it really makes no difference whether you have fingers or no-fingers or tentacles 'cos you ain't ever going to get it unlocked (at least not until about May next year when the sun finally makes a reappearance).

Am I weird? I don't actually see the need for long fingered gloves, I wear regular track mits all year, lately my fingers are really cold for about 5 minutes, then warm up and I'm fine.

Thick socks, shoes and neoprene overshoes still don't stop my toes going numb though, what's wrong with me?

Don't forget that you move and use your fingers while riding, which encourages blood flow. Your tootsies don't get as much exercise.

Poor circulation. Old age is creeping up on you. They'll drop off soon

...you think about buying a weather centre so you can see what the temp is like outside without having to go out first...

Thick socks making your shoes too tight and restricting blood flow?
I've been using either castelli winter socks or assos early winter ones with overshoes. Both socks are pretty thin but are working for me.

Ah well, toes I can live without, as long as it's not any other appendages, ,gladly the important ones don't get as cold.

Not at all, I commute in a cheap pair of Pearl Izumi shoes (they've been on offer on Wiggle for months now) They're actually so wide that I can feel the crank arms passing the inside of my toes if I move my feet about, my Sidis on the other hand are really narrow and do make my feet colder as a result.

You hope it will be a cloudy rainy day

Because that's easier than skating on ice
