I've been using Shimano R075 this last season and they where fine as my first cycling shoe. What would be the benefits of more expensive shoes (other than weight)?
It's not the size of dog in the fight but the size of fight in the dog.

Decent shoes generally have stiffer, thinner soles which also have a closer position of the foot to the pedal spindle. Better quality uppers also provide a more secure fit - ratchet buckles also mean you can loosen or tighten the straps as you ride.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
