But this begs the question, why is he so certain he'll get a ride? What deal did they do on inviting teams again?

Who says he'll even get to go to the Tour?
Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.

  • You're right, he might get found out before the racing season begins......

He has an advantage over Lance: he's ridden all three GT's in one season before so he understands how to handle the stress of a GT and recover in a short time for the next one. Lance is not only coming out of retirement, he's trying to race in a way he never has before.

That's all fine but why does he think Cervelo will get invited?

There are loads of Italian teams who'll be looking for a ride.

  • .....maybe it's because he's seen who Saxo's team leader is and he's expecting them to get the "Astana boot", as a result?
Quite a lot of Giro news here, this afternoon:-

Including an 80km  stage up the Block and a 15km Rome ITT, to wrap things up.
All will be revealed on Saturday.
Can't believe they have included a 61.5km ITT on stage 12.
Must have been written into someone's terms and agreement.

Because he's the Tour de France champion - he'll get an invite to any race he wants.

Looks like everyone bar Bertie wants "winner of the centenary Giro" on their palmares then. I'm as much impressed that D&G are designing the classification jerseys as anything else. If ever there was a label who specialised in slightly too tight clobber for men who are old enough to know better but like to pretend it looks good, it's them.

    Wot, Van Goolen?

The giro will be inhumane. And as my new avatar tells us, it's going to be for the climbers.

According to an interview in CN Andy Schleck has said he's not going to the Giro and will concentrate on the Tour. Also the Giro organisers have welcomed Sastre's comments and basically guaranteed Cervelo a place.

Menchov, Di Luca, Simoni...it's going to be incredible! (Oh, and I think Bertie said he'd ride in support of Lance so he'll be there too)

UPDATE: Cadel is OUT! And he claims RCS has been falsely claiming he's going to be there...
