Kona CoilAir 2008

Hello guys!
I'm considering buying a '08 CoilAir because it's on a huge Christmas discount. I don't doubt it's descending capabilities, but I wonder how well it climbs. Because where I ride I do some 2000+ ft climbs that are more than an hour long, partly road and partly trail. My current bike is a FR hardtail, it's about 35lb but the Pike fork dials down to 95mm and it climbs pretty well then. The Kona has a 160mm fork (that would make climbs pretty hard, right?), but it has the magic link too. I wonder how it would contribute to climbing.
Also, for general up and down trail riding? Would the big fork make it too exhausting, and does the magic link make up for it?
I think a more suitable bike for me would be something like a Prophet or a Marin Wolf Ridge (more trail and AM, less FR). But the Kona is a really good deal right now.

Previous years Kona bikes are always good deals simply because they are over priced to start with.
I wouldn't like to be doing that much climbing on a Freeride bike weighing 35lbsSpecialized Enduro SL Pro Carbon

I looked at one in the LBS as I quite fancied one- ended up with a Spesh Pitch Pro.
The CoilAir to me felt a bit numb compared to the Pitch- it was noticably heavier and the frame flexed loads around the bottom bracket. That Magic link sounds good in theory, but looks like it could cause grief in the long run IMO.
The CoilAir did feel it could handle anything you could throw at it though.0 -
I'd look at the 07 Coilair over the 08, much better spec and even without the Magic Link climbs suprisingly well for a 36-7lb bike. I had the same choice and went for the 07.
I can comfortably do about 5000ft of climbing on our 4 hour loop in the peaks, without feeling too much pain.
As for the downs, well the Fox Float's eat up anything big and the geometry is very nice for launcing off stuff and landing with ease.Scott Scale Custom

I tried looking for an 07 CoilAir, couldn't find one in medium though- way better spec than the 08.0
