Any SPD bargains at the moment?

I'm a newbie to the world of clipless pedals looking for a decent set of SPDs that aren't as terrifying as the bottom of the range eggbeaters which came with my new bike.
Are there any SPD bargains to be had at the moment?

Very good and adjustable tension to make them easier to get out. I went for standard cleats and found them easy to get used to but you may prefer to get the multi release cleats which allow better for a 'panicked' exit.
Merlin are about the cheapest and it's worth looking for their shoe + pedal special deals as well. I got mine with Shimano MT51's for £49.99. Bargain.Vaaru Titanium Sram Red eTap

ive got a set of m520 pedals and was worried about them (being my first ever spd pedals)

I'm not too impressed with Merlin as they advertised Shimano MW80's for £80 in Mountain Bike UK but they are in fact charging £95. They tell me it's because Shimano have suddenly put up their prices (in a recession!) which I don't believe. I can't help but suspect it's because the MW80's got such a good review in the magazine. Onlinebikes are selling the MT90's for £88 which looks very good but I would like to know about this particular business. Can they be trusted?0

What Merlin have told you is indeed true.Go on to any online retailers site and you will see Shimano prices have gone up substantially.Higher manufacturing costs and the weak pound have both hit prices.
Merlin have a good reputation ,and are normally one of the cheapest, especially for Shimano.I have bought from them and have had good service.2006 Giant XTC

Have a look HERE Dave Hinde Cycles have shimano 520's at £15 a pair or the better sealed 540's at £23 which really is a bargain.0

Ive just got back into the world of spds. I purchased a pair of shimano m66 shoes and a pair of dx pedals both from merlin (cheapest anywhere).
If your buying shimano shoes I would get a size bigger than you usually as there a bit on the small side. I usually wear a 10 or 11/ and I had to get a 12 in shimano sizes.0 -

If they've got stuff in stock I've enevr had a problem, even better if you can pick up in person from the shop.
The internet is full of people who complain endlesly about things that go wrong, but very few people ever praise anyone for anything.
Personally I've never had any problems with Dave Hinde, having had 2 sets of wheels, various drive train bits, brakes and dress up parts off him over the last year0 -
a quick word on the shimano pricing...
chatting to my lbs owner he said that the large online retailers who undercut the prices offered to trade by madison usually drive a van to shimano europe and buy the stuff there. Hence, with the pound dropping against the euro significantly and global prices rising they've suddenly been forced to put prices up, if you look at the increases, some of them are larger than the profit margins they were making at the old prices.0 -
I've got a pair of these for my first SPDs. They're a nice compromise as I can use them in trainers as well.

Might be a dumb and argumentative question but what so terrifying about the eggbeaters.
I've had mine for a year and half now. They were my first spd's and gotta say, i've had no problems as yet.GT Avalanche : Marzocci MX Pro LO, Formula OROS K180 -
anybody got any ideas on how the shimano 66s compare to other shimano kit size wise? i've got a pair of their race shoes in size 44 and they're fine for everything but waterproof socks, and i really need something with a bot more room for winter use, and a bit more useful for just tooling around. any suggestions?! cheers!Rock Lobster 853, Trek 1200 and a very old, tired and loved Apollo Javelin.0
