since i've been working at halfords i've finally got the money to build a really special bike on top of my identiti 666x

i'm looking at either of the following
mythic wildcard with domain 318 u-turn forks saint groupset, hayes hfx 9 brakes, ck devolution stem, easton dh carbon bars, easton pedals, e 13 chaindevice, hope pro2 hubs, not sure on rims
this will come to £2100

or i can build a long travel hardtail
dmr exalt frame, lyrix 2step air, hayes stroker ace brakes, saint groupset, thomson stem, easton bars, and i can do this for around, pro 2 hubs halo rims etc £1800

which would be best value for places like chicksands but also being able to ride most days for college etc?? and which is more likely to give more confidence and last longest

  • i am not able to answer your other questions but for commuting why not get a cheaper hardtail or rigid bike...and keep the other bike for what its suppsed to do-go offroad, and also reduce risk of theft of the expensive bike.

Just curious...if u'v been working at halfords should,nt you be able to answer those questions yourself :)

Yup, getting something cheap and, well, rubbish for your commute makes sense- a visit to your local gumtree for a decade old hopper or somesuch is the way to go. If you try to compromise you get a bike that's not as good as you want at anything.

  • we only work with rubbish lol and tbf i make bad descions when it comes to choosing my own bikes Lol
i'm thinking i may build a full suss and rigidify my identiti Lol

though what about a transition double?
enough travel to give me more confidence but whippy enough to use everyday
