Interview etiquette

I have a question on interview etiquette

A 'Friend' of mine may or maynot have an interview with another company at somepoint, and said company is about 5 miles away. On the map they sent through (so my friend says  ) is the obligatory directions of how to get there by train, bus, car and bike......with showers and lockers available.

The question is, is it unproffessional to turn up to an interview by bike, then get changed into a suit (I assume thats what my friend will be wearing) or should said friend just catch the bus. First impressions count and all that, and the company is quite 'Environmental' by nature, could it be a positive?

Any views welcome

cheers :D

  • Hmmmm, might seem strange if he swans in and starts having a shower and he wouldn't want to stink out the place, i'd be inclined to get the bus but mention the cycling as well, depends on the company though :?

    +1

I'd give the bike a miss that day (I know, it would grate me too :) ). Your shirt and suitt might be crumpled. What if you fall off or get a flat and you've got oil over your hands etc? Perhaps you can just say you normally commute by bike and ask them about their facilities. Don't risk taking liberties.

    "It stays down, Daddy."
    "Exactly."

If it is a mobile phone company named after a fruit there would probably be a +1 - But I don't rate the shower or locker facilities and your friend may not be allowed access to them without a swipe card....

Yes very strange, trust me I've conducted a lot of interviews recently (over 200 in fact), first impressions are everything.

The funniest story yet is of the man who turned up dress in jeans a t-shirt with an open can of beer, better yet when called in to the interview he took the can with him.
Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.

He didn't get the job then cause he didn't share the can ????
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

  • haha...... No its not for any fruit based telecommunications companies...apparently. But my friend is thankful for the comments, I have suggested he look at the bus timetable :)
