Looks like some form of support for a spinal problem with the saddle suspended in the form of a Pederson type arangement.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Is it not a current Pedersen? Saw a besuited commuter on one in Germany last week - very cool!

    must be a suspended saddle?

this was in the bicycling magazine long years ago. thought it lookd similar.

If he loses his grip on those bars he is going to impale himself on the hugely extended head tube

Also, if his "saddle" is a bit of fabric stretched between the head tube and the seat pillar, what happens if it snaps :?:

What do I ride? Now that's an Enigma!

Meagain is correct - its a Pedersen (http://www.dursley-pedersen.net/racing_pedersen.html) rather than an Allsop Softride (the trick with guys riding Softrides was to sneak alongside when they were out of the saddle climbing, pull down on the beam and let it spring back up into their nadgers.)

There are nearly always a couple of Pedersens parked up at the railway station I use. Although the handle bars are a little higher up the head tube. I think it must be a Teutonic thing, as I've never seen one in the UK. I'd love to have a go on one though.

good idea, Rob. I for one am getting bored with the latest range of CF and/or fixie options. Why don't you test ride eccentric bikes all together: Moultons, Pedersens, Recumbents and the ilk. That would be a good feature.

Strange looking thing. I'd certainly like to have a go on one. Or even just a look at one.

I'll post some photos next time I see one in the bike sheds. I have Pedersen self actualising brakes (Suntour XCD) on my commuting bike, another invention of the eponymous Danish cycling inventor.

Self-actualising brakes?? WTF?? Do they tell you that they feel good about themselves after every ride?

And how about one of those Condor Paris thingies?

Damn - I knew it was a Dursley Pedersen.

I bought my first Sidi shoes from the shop in Dursley when I was a schoolie. I think they had one in there - but I may be imagining it ?

There is the rather sad remains of a locally-produced one (c. 1903?) in Nottingham Transpost Heritage Collection:

Together with this (presumably both would be UCI-illegal!):

It would be great to see a test of one these in PC or somewhere else . Also other 'odd' ideas for 'cycles would be a good read too . Might persuade me to part with my pennies .
