Does anyone have any info about the routed in Broxborne woods?
I've heard it's quite good but don't know much more than that. If you don't want to reveal all the good bits I'm happy to explore, I just need the best place to start out from really.

TIA

  • I'm in the same sort of area, and looking for somewhere like this to go. (being a beginner)

Just wondered if you had any joy. I think I know where you are talking about (we used to call it the pines)

There are lots of car parks around these places but not sure if any are good for riding.

    Just stumbled across this thread...

Broxbourne is great fun. I haven't found any manmade/modified trails but there's plenty of flowing singletrack.

Arguably better than Broxbourne Woods itself is another area - part of Hertford Heath I think - which you get to by popping out at the single lane road to the north (?) of Broxbourne Woods and going down a briddleway labelled as part of Ermine Street. When it meets the main road go across, taking you back onto a singletrack footpath. Keep going through there and explore the far side of that area. Look for the grey arrows on the trees. ;)

That's probably clear as mud, but I found it by accident so it's not difficult to stumble on. Broxbourne itself is far from bad and there's one trail in particular that goes off from near the Pembridge Lane car park which traverses all the way to the far side on narrow single track through the trees.

Did you find any good areas around broxborne woods?

If anyone is up for a weekend ride round the area let me know. Always looking to explore new areas!

    Hi,

In a word, yes. The post above gives a kind of crude description, but I've found some other routes since then. Basically I'd advise parking here:

    http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&sourc ... 17&iwloc=A

Just to the right of the cross roads shown on the map there's a car park. Anywhere north of that is worth a look, although it's quite warrenous, so there's more there than you initially think. As a starting point, you want to head out on the fireroad that's sort of perpendicular to the line of the car park until you come to a sharp left hand bend with the remains of a fence in front of it. Climb through the fence (it's still public property, just a short cut) and over the ditch. You should then see single track running past you. Either direction is good, but downhill is probably the more intuitive choice to find more singletrack.

PM If you fancy organising a ride at some stage. I'm away for the next two weekends, but either an evening or a weekend after that might be a possibility.

I'd be up for that if you've got a spare shovel. :)

What sort of trails are you building? I'm a bit too much of a wimp for full-on dirt jumps, but a few lips and berms sounds good. The area has huge potential.

I've been on my commuter bike lately and haven't even got on the MTB for months. Would be a good excuse to get back out.

thats the most recent vid of them

not great but the area we have has a bit of potential

plans atm are, sort the step down into the ditch out so that u carry more speed then out of hte ditch build a step up, then carries on and hips onto the dj line (only first one built in vid, thats as a speed check then theres gna be a small flat bit then some larger jumps)

also gonna eventualy put in a mini dh

as for spades we have 2 atm and a wheelbarrow, migth be able to get a few more but it would be very helpful if ppl brought there own :)

main aim of the dig day wed want is get as much of dj line done as poss, gonna do mini dh over winter as that will be easiest 2 dig ground up when its wet 2 stick in rock / log gardens

Oops, about 3 years since the last post....but oh well

I live in Broxbourne and often go into the woods to ride the trails and bridleways

Have any of you actually gone and built and proper trails? If so, I'd love to know where they are and go and ride them once I get a new MTB (mine was stolen 2 nights ago from in my garage)
On that note....any hardtail MTB suggestions? About the £500 mark if possible!
