Hi
Does anyone have any thoughts on this bike or alternatives? From what I've seen it does look good but there isn't a great amount of reviews from people who've actually got one.
And also has anyone had any dealings with merlins cycles?
Thanks

If you do a search of this forum for the Commencal there are a few posts from people who have one. General consensus is that they are very good bikes and great value for money.
Merlin seem to be very highly regarded as well, both in terms of price and customer service.
My personal opionion (based on not a great deal of experience mind) is that the Combi Dlx is the nicest looking and best value for money hardtail around at the mo. For £530 it seems a lot of bike, and it looks just so damn good.
I really need to try one of these for size...Less internal organs, same supertwisted great taste.0 -
I love my Combi Deluxe (the 2008 Red and White one). Happy that I went for it rather than a similar priced Trek/GT/Giant I tried locally. I've had it about 4 months but not been out on it quite as much as I hoped. Only thing you'll probably want to change are the tyres, but they're only an issue in really muddy conditions - it's quick on smooth forest roads. I put a pair of white MG-1 pedals on it, although it came with a heavy and horrible pair of pedals from Merlin. You will become obsessed with finding red and white accessories for it though
The Combi Disc uses the same frame, so you may be able to test ride one of those locally if you can't find a Deluxe any where. This is how I sized up the Deluxe before ordering from Merlin.0 -
Thanks for the replies
My local edinburgh bike coop stock commencal so i will try and get down there sometime.
Also are your MG 1 pedals any good? Whereabouts did you get them?
Thanks0 -
its a really nice bike, im thinking of getting the combi disc, would really like the deluxe but i doubt i can stetch my budget that far, still i dont mind upgrading components over time. have you seen the bike for yourself yet or just online, i tried one for size the other day and it definately feels like a good bike, hope you enjoy it if you get it. i havnt personally got anything from merlin cycles but i have heard they are quite reliable.0

I have an 07 Combi Disc, not as flash as the Deluxe but I can throw it most things and it has taught me a lot. I was looking at getting a new HT but due to money constraints im now looking to up grade the Commie....should be good.0

I got the pedals were on eBay - £25 from Hong Kong. Can't really fault them at that price!

It comes on small block 8s doesn't it? They're pretty great trail tyres. Not good winter tyres but they're fast and grippy.
If you do get it, and you take the SBs off, sell them to meUncompromising extremist0 -
