Just wondering if other Londoners are cycling in these cold conditions? Is it icey out there?

  • I live under five miles from Oxford Circus, just the other side of the river, and have been ok so far, no ice. I don't cycle in the very early hours like some though.
  • The only icy bit of London I've encountered is teh actual road I live on which for some reason isn't gritted. The rest of it's fine.

I haven't cycled properly since the SCR xmas bash what with the wife's birthday + trip to Ireland and a nasty cold (not man flu, avatar now changed) - yesterday I popped to the shops on the SS only to turn the corner a find everything completely icy white, still my Michelin tyres held very well.

I set out at 6.30ish, there's frost in the morning on the side roads, and ice in the parks, but generally it's gritted/already busy enough to have melted it all on the main roads.

I did nearly come a cropper on a puddle of ice the other day.

Likewise - 0630 this morning and my road was like an ice rink. Fine by the time I reached the main road, but took it sloooow and easy until then!

I've not seen any ice in London at all. Was in Sussex over the weekend and some of the lanes were still icy at 2 in the afternoon.

There's been no ice in SE london or north Kent, even in the country lanes where I expected it to be a bit dicy.

It was V icy over the weekend though, was out on the MTB and some parts of the trails didn't thaw out all day.

  • As per my post on the SCR thread I managed to find a couple of spots with "less traction" this morning.......can be very difficult to spot on wet roads - especially when it's not that glimmering white stuff!

Having said that I was heading away from town, towards Thames Ditton and it was on residential roads which see less traffic, all the main roads where fine!
