Hi,

After commuting for many years on my old Trek, I think its about time I went for something a bit more lighter and suited for the job. I have my eyes on these 3 bikes and would appreciate any comments...

- Cannondale Bad Boy Hybrid with internal hub gear
- Specialized Langster
- Charge Mixer
which has the Alfine hub which I know is far better than the Nexus system.

Thanks,

Paul

Paul, I've had a langster for 3 weeks and about 150 miles and so far I love it! I've never ridden the others, but went langster because there's less things to go wrong, just check the tyres, lube the chain and give it a wipe when it's been in the rain. I'm riding fixed and the only noise is my breathing

  • The lightest out of that lot will be the langster by a long way.

If you have a flatish commute go for it. I ride one and it is the best fun bike I have ever ridden - it also has the surest handling of any bike I have ridden.

None of the above. I highly recommend one of these though:

  • I'm a big fan of the pompino, ridden the langster and i didn't enjoy it as much.

For your commute i'd definitely go steel and single-speed as the extra weight and single-speeding will improve your fitness.

The other one, in the other direction would be a tricross single, that is very comfy and it'll take mudguards happily.
