Garmin Edge 305 Heart Rate Problems

Hi Everyone, this has probably been covered before but here goes anyway.

My garmin edge 305 has stopped picking up the signal from my heart rate strap, i've changed the battery in the strap but still no success. The display just show's a flashing heart with a cross through it.

Anyone encountered this before? If so any tips as to how i can correct this, or is it a send back job?

    Do you not need to re-calibrate the 305 to pick up the heart rate strap?

    Settings>System>Accesories

    Change heart monitor to no, save, then go back in change it back to yes, restart scan.
    Rides a Cannondale Synapse 105.
