i just took delivery of one of the new seat post clamps and it is a very nice thing but i noticed a couple of things already,

first, the laser etching on the collar is upside down!!

the brass part of the cam lock has already (after only 2 opening and closing operations )scored a couple of deepish grooves onto the lever

is this the same on anyone elses?

i know its only fussy stuff but i hate paying money for something which is purely a trinket in the first place just to find out that there is stuff wrong

ive had the old version before on a different bike, with the little nobble on the end of the lever and that was fine, but this new style one seems like a friday afternoon thing.

Love the look of that new design, much better than the old one. I can't believe that the logo is suppose to be upside down though - gotta be a mistake, hell that stop me buying it

it is th new one and as i mentioned before, i have used the old one with no problem but that was another bike. i fitted a new one to this bike cause i fancied it. i do think it is good looing but am dissapointed that there are only a handfull of things which can go wrong with a setpost clamp, and they have all happened to mine!!

i might get in comms with hope and see what they say but to be honest i dont think i can be arsed to send the bugger back.

i might start pretending mine is custom made by a company called "adoy"

I've got two of the old ones and both are great.

Any advantage of the new one (apart from not working)?
    Any lighter?

    Certainly looks the business.

i dont know if its any lighter, it is certainly a better looking thing and in the grand scheme of things, it does its job so i should probably stop gobbing off!!

it is alot nicer to use in comparison to the specialized one which was fitted as standard as the lever is a touch longer and alot less pointy.

If the etching on the ring round the seat tube is upside down in relation to the lever could you not take it apart and rebuild with the lever and cam mechanism bolt in the other way round.
I do not have one of these items so ignore me if i am talking tosh as I have no idea if both outside flanges of the seat post ring are the same, they look like they might be in which case it would work the other way up. The cam mechanism seems to be totally separate from the actual aluminium collar.

I was gonna say the same as chrisga - can you not flip it upside down and have the lever on the other side of the frame?

Mine is the old style one though which is why it's probably ok.

the collar cannot be flipped upside down as there is a rim on the inside of it to stop it from sliding down the seat tube. and this rim is at the top.

ive just ordered another one for my enduro so i'll see if it turns up in better nick.

  • I had 2 of the old ones snap on me! They were small ones, 28.6mm and where they broke the alloy was really thin. Don't think it's a problem on the bigger ones though.
Only had 2 because they replaced the 1st one. One snapped closing the QR, the other one snapped opening it!

Personally, I think it is crap.

How much are these things ? 16 quid ? Seriously, you shouldn't be getting damage like that off a couple of uses and the upside down logo seriously must be a mistake in manufacturing and with respect, it all looks rubbish. I certainly wouldn't be looking to chuck more cash at another one without getting a response from them first.

doh-need to read pg 2 - ignore.
  • It may actually be worth more as it must be an error, sheep it may pay off in the end. My brother a star wars nerd has some figures mounted on Revenge of the Jedi cards and they are worth more than my 5 for one, I kid you not. E-bay add wrights itself, Rare upside down print seat QR, one careful owner £2000 start.
