Afternoon all,

Just got my new Allez Sport 09 and am already thinking of spending some more hard earned cash upgrading her.

Any suggestions as to where would be a good start, I'm new to this road stuff so need all the help I can get!

Cheers.

  • If you've only just got it, why not just enjoy riding it for a while instead of thinking about upgrades. Then you'll find out through riding what, if anything, warrants an upgrade.
  • Tyres, the mondos arent very unplanned deflation resistant, I would change them quite soon. Clipless pedals when you feel confident enough, then better wheels. Although I do second EssexSuffolks opinion of getting out and enjoying it before you get suckered in to spending like me  and in fact many others  .

i think the allez is a good frame, why not stick to the stock spec and upgrade to 10 speed when things wear out (which will take a while since my tiagra stuff are still good after 1.5 year), like SRAM Rival or Shimano 105/Ultegra?

Agree with the above, get used to your new pride and joy then look at shoes and clipless pedals :D
He is not the messiah, he is a very naughty boy !!
  • I've got the shoes and pedals, just gonna use the ones from my MTB, i was just really checking to see if any of the standard bits are worth changing straight away.

    Thanks for all the replies.

I'd agree with all the others see what riding tells you - it is a pretty well specked bike - but if you've money burning a hole in your pocket- I got the 08 Allez Sport - have binned the tyres (same as yours) puncture like nobody's business & pedals. The only other thing I think I might change is the cassette (which is 11-28 on the 08) to a 12/25 but you've gott similar already.

assuming you're not commuting) get some proper road shoes & pedals - I'm making do with MTB spd's and they're not up to the job; after a couple of hours it starts hurting.
  • What tyres would anyone recommend ?

Uh oh - you've done it now - asking what tyre.

everyone will point out just what a huge amount of money they will spend on a tyre - narrrow the argument down now while you still a have the chance.

    What budget

what sort of riding - commute/club run etc
  • Continental gp4000s i've got the older ones without the chili stuff, i also have michellin pro race 3 but the conti's are much better

pro race for me, but I have conti 4000 on my bike at present to give them a try out - not bad, but will go back to pro race when these wear out.
  • Specialised Gatorskins for me at this time of year for the "unexpected sudden deflation" protection

I would mass load the frame with lead balls. Oh wait this isn't Hi-Fi.
    Say... That's a nice bike..
