Redundant

Along with falling off the bike this week, I was told yesterday that I was to be made redundant. As I work in manufacturing it may be a while before I get another job. I will however go from barely any time to enjoy my hobbie to all the time in the world
I've postponed the order for the Record groupset.

...sorry to hear that steelride, hope you find something...redundancy is the spectre that shadows the whole country at the moment...I fear there will be more of us on here with more time to post and ride our bikes next year......all the way...'til the wheels fall off and burn...0

Sorry to hear that, Steelrider. I've been made redundant twice now and it's not pleasant.
It's not a good time of year to be looking for another, either, but I'd suggest that you start now! IME any job's better than none. It's nice to have an 'extended holiday', but after a while it started to do my nut in. Cycling definitely helped me to retain some semblance of sanity though.
Redundancy can sometimes work out for you if you get something different that you like doing. If you get another job quickly enough, it's a few extra bob in the bank as well.

Is it part of human nature or something to make people like yourself redundant at Xmas. Is it something senior management are trained to do during corporate weekends, or what.
Basterds.
Hope you pick up something asap. Good luck.Spring!

In my company we find out our fate on 19 December. My birthday is 20 December, so I've made no plans. Like everyone else that has lost their job recently I sincerely hope that you find something soon... not just something, but a job that you really enjoy.0

Unlucky Steelride. The same thing's happened to me. I finish on the 19th Dec which is the same day as the company christmas party - I'm hijacking it as my leaving party.
Fortunately I've been with this company for 10 years so I'll be getting a half decent payout which means I can go on an extended bike tour this summer. I'm going to see my sister; she lives in Bahrain. So I'll get to ride through 10 or so different countries across 2 continents.
I just need to pick up any form of employment until then.FCN 8 - Touring Bike with panniers.

Thanks for the replies guys. I will be getting a half decent payout and I really want to do more miles, just wish it was spring. I can't say that I'm that bitter about it as I didn't really want to work there anyway. I've also got some meetings with agencies lined up for next week already.
Thanks again, nice to know the forum can provide some kind words.0 -

I the words of a character in Monty Python's Life of Brian "You lucky, lucky b@$£@rd". They keep making making people around me redundant, but it never comes my way. They do say it's the survivors that suffer the most.
Anyway, chin up, and I hope you land something worthwhile before you wear out your tyres.

Sorry to hear that Steelride
I got made redundant almost 6 years ago ( 2 days before Christmas ) but for me on whole it was not a bad thing as it gave me the push to go on my own ( Antique restorer and Cabinet maker ), as it was something i had wanted to do for years
Not so easy when you have a paying job.
Have to say for me it has not been all bad but there has also been lots of good.
I hope things take a quick turn for you and all the best0 -
Just in time to apply for a job as a Christmas Casual Postman, even if you don't get called in to the sorting office you get paid for the training and holiday pay. Admittedly it's only 20 quid for 3 hours "work" but enough for me to get pissed on assuming Tescos are still allowed to sell Strong Cider for 20p.
I've had temporary contracts end and that feels odd. and been made redundant (at that I was just plain pissed off despite knowing it was inevitable for ages). Luckily each time I managed to get something pretty quick.
Manufacturing... Ick, don't the government seem to think that only exists in China and India?Do Nellyphants count?
