Just returned to the MTB after too many years out of the saddle. Looking for other riders in our County to tag along with. I am a novice but enjoy trail bashing and should be O.K. for a few hours initially. I am looking mainly to ride on a Sunday (anytime) and possibly a weekday night ride over the winter. I live near Maidstone but can travel all over the County. I look forward to hearing from you ...

Hey McBlip, say hello on the XC in Kent thread great bunch of guys and they go riding every weekend and do a weekly night ride. There is a fair bit of banter to trawl through, try starting from the last ten pages and you get the gist of who everyone is and what they are up to...

Also check out www.kent-trails.co.uk loads of routes and they meet up weekly too.

In Maidstone you are well positioned to get around easily!!

MCBlip, you need to pop your virtual head into the largest thread on here - the XC in Kent thread...

If you're near maidstone, do you get anywhere near Boxley/Bluebell hill? - its quite a regular ride for most of us at some point or another - although its a bit of a mess there at the moment.

My avatar is of me flying down the steps up there!

Many moons ago - like 8 years!!! I went up to Boxley, travelled along the top of the downs and down a "flinty" track down to Jades crossing. I'm sure there is so much more up there but not sure where. Any directions would be much appreciated.

As has been mentioned before, when you have a moment  , have a read of the XC in Kent thread. We've waffled & posted maps, etc on the subject at various times.
Come say hello on there and you never know, you even wanna tag along to our next poorly arranged attempt at a forum ride

This was/is our training route - plenty of uphill, with a nice downhill treat. The Flinty track is more than likely our uphill climb which we chop a bit going the the Larches. We then go along the top all the way to the other end and do the downhill section which takes in the steps. Its not majorly long, but we train on it as its an undulating route with plenty of climbing in from Maidstone. Theres loads of little downhill sections to explore, and you can choose your routes accordingly.

Its great as its local, but this time or year its a claggy/clay mess on the top field, not my favourite kind of mud! :?
