Just bought the Tacx Antares rollers from Wiggle !
And boy they are great - did take a little while to get balance & then off you go ...well you know what I mean
Good investment for winter but just watch that crossbar if you come off suddenly ouch still painful
Thought I'd share my experience with you cheers
Chris

Good on you! Rollers are the way to go I reckon...! But a lot better with a resistance unit fitted, then you can do all kinds of workouts on them. I did a 4 hour ride on mine the other day, 65 miles (well the resistance is a lot harder than riding on a flat road). I use them for intervals, sprints, climbing, just easy spinning, all sorts.0

Thanks for the reply - gonna give em another try tonight then aiim for a longer session on Fri night. Do not think you can increase resistance with my rollers but at mo just happy with current set up maybe something to think about for the future.
Now gonna move rollers from Hallway as far too hot !
Conservatory here I come0 -

are rollers not just a warm up tool?? at around 100 pounds is it possible to get rollers with resistance?
or is it just better to get a turbo?0 -
4hrs :? sod that
verry impressed though
I spin with a DVD on the Mac.
it's costing me a fortune in DVD's
if you do 4 hrs get Apocolypse Now (redux) that's 4 hrshttp://twitter.com/mgalex

I do spend most my time in top gear 52/12 but I rely more on my HRM and do sessions at 60 80 and 90% HR max.
So my advice would be put your bike in top and spin up till your HRM is on about 80% now hold it there for 5 minutes, easy ? now try it for 20 or 40 minutes ease off for 2 then up to 90 for 3. If it,s still easy fit a cassette with less teeth.0 -

Well I couldn't do a session of that length when I first got them, also without the resistance it seemed a little pointless. But now they've been 'modded' so to speak I can do 10 minute out of saddle 'climbs' on them to relieve the saddle pain. Also the fan (driven by the belt on the front roller) is great for keeping cool. I have to say though the rollers are also the acid test for new shorts, saddles, position adjustments etc, because with so much time seated and no coasting, if they work for 1 hour plus on rollers they'll be fine on the open road.
It's nice to know that if I have to I can do 'base mileage' that is required by a lot of training programmes, inside if the weather is really hideous. So they're not just for intervals!0 -
hi derek how did you mod your rollers if you dont mind me askin?0

Hey Derek,
saw your previous links on converting your rollers to free motion. Think i might have a go at it myself0
