Oh, plenty and plenty of hake there was
Of a glory beyond compare,

  • Suggest you try asking on the NZ touring forum :

But the best solution is probably to pick up and adapt a s/h bike then sell it once you get to Queenstown.
  • I doubt it because most bike rental places are small independant retailers, so they won't have an outlet to drop the bike into... I'm still aiming for world domination!!

I'd buy a relatively cheap bike then sell it, like Noctilux says.
  • You could try these guys, though they're based in Christchurch:-

Personally I'd bring my own bike though, a rigid mtn bike fitted out with slicks and a pannier rack would be ideal.

Depends what your priority is on time, but I wouldn't rate the chance of buying something suitable second hand on the net at short notice.
  • Why don't you travel with a bike you want to sell. Then, put it on eBay for collection in the town where your tour will finish.

    Where the rain gets in.
    But they're ever so small
That's why rain is thin. " Spike Milligan
  • Freinds of ours have had a good run hiring tandems off this company. http://www.cyclehire.co.nz/cycle_hire.htm . Have a great time.

When are you planning on coming over. Always a spare bed for cyclist if we are home. We are at Reporoa half way between Rotorua and Taupo in the North Island.

    Enjoy your ride.
