it looks like the juicy 7 is cheaper and the five is even cheaper again.

i have used 3, 5 7 and ultimate and think they pretty much all feel the same. i would go for fives for a balance between price and performance.
  • I really dont want avid brakes again :( i know its a tad OTT, but i HATE my 3's. and i want to try something else.
My brothers stroker trails are amazing ( i'm tempted by some myself) but these brakes are for my freeride HT build and want something sexy...i cant afford formula the one's before anyone mentions them 8)

i ran k18s by formula before and they were pretty good, i think they are 160 quid for the pair. still prefer juicys though
  • So what is your budget?

You could get the cheaper formula brakes perhaps?
  • Fair enough :) for some reason i have the misconception that avid brakes are fairly budget and average performance brakes....think i've just have a bad experience with my 3's.

Btw, the brakes i was looking at were £160 each  i found i can get my wheels a bit cheaper than i realised

you must have just had some bad luck with your 3's, what exactly is wrong with them or is it that you just want something gucci? (theres nowt wrong with that by the way) i have tried loads of brakes and avids are the best by far.

well my GF is giving me £300 towards the bike for xmas/belated birthday/money she owes me, but obviously i dont have to spend all of it just on brakes...there are other bits an pieces i'd like and have already budgeted for in the next few months.

There's a review in this months (Decembers MBUK) they get a good write up.

theres no feel to them... when riding my bro's stinky with stroker trails on, you could just tell exactly what the brakes were doing, they has loads of power...and then more in reserve if you needed it.
when i went back t the 3's it felt like i was using 2 planks of wood on ice to stop myself!

Formula K18s are £129 at merlin at the moment for the set. I want some for myself but I'm skint.
  • So your budget is £160 each end? Then the world is your oyster, you could get Formula MEGA brakes or Hope moto V2 (without the vented rotor), there are a lot of good brakes for £160 each end!

oh and the Hayes Stroker Carbons are cheap too at £130 for the set at Merlin.

  • I do like the sound of the mega's...will save me a bit of cash too.

thing is tho, will i see the benefits of more expensive brakes? its the only thing toying with my mind atm. I won't be taking it easy on the bike, and know that tyres and brakes are one of the most important things safety wise (besides armour) and fel that scrimping on something that important is pretty stupid!
