Not really a rant, just an observation... walking the bike past a local chippy and I stopped to let some younbg kids, no older than 9 or 10, come through first on the pavement as there wasnt much room. As usual they are dordling because they've just come out of school so I step to one side a bit further and I hear this little lad, for no obvious reason, say to me: "OI! Watch where you're going, Dingbat!"

Daft little sod, if he and his mates had been paying attention instead of getting in my way... I bet he went and told his mother about "this cyclist on the pavement", etc etc.

I had 2 kids last night (at a guess 13/14 yo) pretend to throw something at me last night. I saw them doing it so stopped very fast and asked them "why would you do that?" there faces were a picture.

    boy "eh.......what?"

me "I said why would you do that?"

boy "I just thought you looked funny with the light on your helmet"

me "so why would you do that?"

boy "oh....sorry. Are you in a marathon?"

me "no, if I was in a marathon I'd be running"

other boy laughing "yeah, he'd be running"

boy "cool bike, howfast can you go?"

    me "over 40mph"

both boys "wow, cool, 40 mph! no way, nice bike!"

we all said goodbye and I went on my way. I thought it was actually quite a positive outcome. Hopefully they both went home thinking that maybe it was quite "cool" to cycle rather than using cyclists as target practice.

I used to get annoyed by lines of kids taking up the whole pavement (whilst walking of course) and not letting anyone passed. Now I don't get out of the way. I don't barge through either though....just stop and stand still.
Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.
