Hi

I've just sold my Marzocchi XC 500's off my Kinesis Maxlight XC 120 Hardtail. Would you reccmomend putting some Fox Talas RLC 32's on it (providing they dont sell)? My riding style is XC but with does encounter some downhill trails etc.

What do you think?

Cheers

ive got talas 32s and they are on a bike designed for 120mm forks. im a big fan of adjustable height suspension. you can ride around at 120 for most of the time and adjust to 140 for Downward direction.

Also, it's called an XC>120 (greater than 120). One of the Kinesis adverts showed the bike built with Pikes.

  • But is running them at 140mm all the time going to effect the frame in anyway??? Is it gonig to snap or anything like that due to the front end being a little higher than normal?

it says here that the frame is designed for forks upto 130mm but i wouldnt imagine 140 would do any damage but it will feel pretty slack for riding along flat or uphil terrain

Assuming you run your fork at the usual 25% sag, a 140 fork only runs 7.5mm longer than a 130mm. Have a look at 7.5mm on a ruler and you'll see why it's not worth worrying about.

In terms of your head tube, if your fork has a ride height of 520mm it equates to a 1% increase in moment. If your head tube breaks it will be because of horrible landing or a flaw in the original material, not because you fitted a 140 fork in place of a 130.

Anyway, 140s not a big fork
