I have 1.5 City Jets, Yesterday I killed 3 tubes, So today my dearling other half went out and got me 2 news ones, However she got 1.75-2.12 Tubes, Now I suspect I know the answer but can use these 1.75 tubes in my 1.5 City Jet tyres?

Cheers

  • I was once sold the wrong tubes (to big) by a bike shop for some 1.25 Specialized Fatboys (slick MTB tyres). I spent ages ar*sing around getting my new tyres on. They may cause you problems fitting your tyres - but if it is a choice between riding/not riding I'd give it a go.

1.5" tyres with 1.75~" tubes will work but try doing the same with 1" tyres and they will burst as I found out the hard way. Had to buy some smaller tubes. Evans sell 1.5" tubes.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Bit slow catching up here Gaz, hope it's still of use.

3 tubes in one day, that's not good. Are you sure there's nothing in the tyre carcass or rim that's causing it?

These tubes are for knobbly MTB tyres really. But you could try one and take it back if it won't fit. If the shop doesn't have 26 x 1.5" try the Michelin AirStop (I'd pick the Schrader option, for convenience). Or a Nutrak 10-pack (look for the 26 x 1.5 - 1.95 Schrader). CRC should get them to you sharpish too.
Aspire not to have more, but to be more.

No much use to you but, I understand some people ride with no tyres or tubes, I did have a link for youtube (no pun intended).

    have you considered tubeless?

Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.

Do it anyway - you may just blow away like a balloon when you let all the air out.....! Banana tyres are the "in" thing right now.

*note - some of the above may be bloody unsafe!*

Sorry for no replying guys, Thanks for alll the advice.

I killed 3 tubes in a day because......

    Tube 1....Puncture on way home

Tube 2.....BLEW it by pinching it when refitting it at home

Tube 3: A crappy repair job that I had forgot about from the summer DOHHHHH

My misses too the other tubes back and got me some Kenda 1.5's from ebay, I must admid finding 1.5's isnt all too easy in shops unless your willing to pay 8 quid per tube.........

Must admit that I have had a 3 tube and 1 tyre day too - very frustrating, but I am lucky that I go past Cycle Surgery in Bristol - the most expensive cycle shop in the world! However, had to make a few quick purchases to keep me on the road.
